In Islam, Angels are said to be in existence, and it is written as an article
of faith. Pagans of Mecca believed they were Allah’s daughters, but Angels are simply Allah’s creations. Our Islamic faith is incomplete if we do not believe in Angels. Allah has appointed many of His Angles to the management of the Universe. Angels have been created from light and are not visible to ordinary mortals. They can only be visible in human form like Jibrael was to Muhammad (SAWS). They preform their assigned duties to the best of their abilities according to the orders God gives them. They are sent to protect men, to administer Allah’s punishments, to carry His messages and to preform various other functions. Allah describes their entire submission to Him in the following words: “They never disobey Allah’s Command and do as they are commanded.”(16:50). The Angels are also called messenger in the Holy Book as they conveyed the Divine message of Allah to the Prophets. In human form, they appeared before Abraham to give him the glad tidings of a son. Hazrat Lut was also warned about impending doom of his town. Hazrat Maryam was also blessed with the news of a Holy son by an angel Gabriel. Hazrat Zakariya also experienced the same experience of visiting of an angel. Angels are Allah’s creation, and they have their own necessary power and qualities which humans don’t have but we also have their own powers such as they could think and have emotions. They are not His daughters nor are they objects of worship because of the power they have that human do not. They have no knowledge except that what Allah has taught them. They prostrated before Adam when Allah commanded them to do so. Angels glorify and praise Allah and they never get tired. They neither need to sleep nor do they require the things needed by humans’ beings. Angels are the guardians of Hell-fire and they will welcome in Heaven all those who obeyed Allah’s commands and will throw the wrong doers into Hell. The name of the angel in charge of Paradise is Rizwan while Malik is in charge of Hell. There are many Angels like Kiram-an- katibeen on our shoulders who have records of our good deeds and our bad ones. There are many Angels in number and the Quran says “But verily, over you (are appointed angels) to protect you-kind and honorable, writing down (your deeds)”. (82:19-11). There are also Munkar and Nakeer, they go to the graves of the newly dead to ask them questions. Besides, there are many angels with various assignments. Although Angels have an extremely important position in front of Allah, the status of Angels is not above human beings . they are assigned for helping us at each and every step as Allah orders them but humans remain the “best of all creations”. We know this as Angels were asked to bow down to Hazrat Adam (AS). This reminds us to be grateful to Allah who has granted us with the most superior status and appointed Angels for our assistance. Angels pray for the forgiveness of human beings and help us on the commands of Allah.
