CLASS: B.A/B.SC 3rd year 6th SEMESTER (HONS.),

SUB: MATHEMATICS

DATE: 09/06/2021, COURSE CODE: BMH6DSE43, F.M:10

1) Answer any two questions: ( 2 × 5 = 10)

a) A homogeneous liquid is rotating uniformly about a vertical axis
under a given system of forces. Derive the differential equation
for pressure. Show that if the gravity is the only external force,
the free surface of liquid is a paraboloid of revolution.
b) The side AB of a triangle ABC is in the free surface of a fluid and
points D, E are taken on AC such that the pressures on triangles
BAD, BDC, BEC are equal. Show that
AD: DE: EC= 1: (√2 -1): (√3 − √2).
c) If an area is bounded by two concentric semi-circles with their
common bounding diameter in the free surface, prove that the
3𝜋(𝑎+𝑏)(𝑎2 +𝑏2 )
depth of the centre of pressure is where a and b
16(𝑎2 +𝑏2 +𝑎𝑏)
are their radii (a>b).
