2. Grammar clues.

2.1. Present perfect and present perfect continuous.

2.1.1 Present continuous.

The present perfect continuous is used to express a continuing action that began
in the past and continues in the present.

When making sentences in the present perfect continuous use the HAVE / HAS +
BEEN + VERB(-ING) formula. Take into account the subject so you can decide
which auxiliary is the appropriate.

Example:

They have been playing videogames all day.

She has been studying hard for the exam during the last weeks.

How long has he been fixing the car for?

2.1.2 Present perfect

It can also be used to talk about unfinished actions that started in the past and are
still true in the present. Use the auxiliary HAVE/HAS and the verb in PAST
PARTICIPLE.

It's often used with stative verbs

Example:

She has wanted that book for a long time.

2.2 Finished and unfinished actions.

There is a difference in meaning between these two structures.

1. The present perfect continuous is used when the focus is on an activity is

unfinished.
I’ve done the exercises you told me. I finished them in the morning
I’ve been doing the exercises you told me. I’m missing a couple!
2. The present perfect continuous talks about how long something has been
happening. On the other hand, the present perfect simple is often used
when we're talking about how much or how many.
She’s been drinking coffee the whole morning.
She’s drunk 7 cups of coffee.
3. The present perfect continuous is used when the focus is on an activity that
is unfinished.
They’ve been decorating their new apartment.
They’ve painted it in black.
4. We use ‘yet’ and ‘already’ with the present perfect simple:
