As most of you know, Spring was a bit trying for us. Thank you for all your cards and concern
Bonnie due to her hospital stay during April. It really helped getting so much support from our Gold
Wing family. She is doing better, and her lungs are improving. While we haven’t done much riding
yet, Bonnie hopes to be on her trike and we can get riding again soon.
We know there were some members of the NH/VT District that were planning on attending Wing Ding
2021 in Springfield MO. Would love to hear about your travels to the
“SHOW-ME” state. We unfortunately could not attend but posts we saw on
Facebook looked like it was another great event. Looked like the parade
was awesome. According to a post we saw, there were over 200 bikes in
the parade.
Wing Ding 43 is being held in Shreveport LA, June 28 – July 2, 2022.
Some happy news for the Bascom’s but sad news for us. Bill and Dee
Bascom have sold their home in New Hampshire and will be moving south
in the near future. Bill has been our District Newsletter Editor and
Webmaster as well as the Assistant Chapter Director for NH-E. As they
venture into a new adventure of their life, please congratulate them both on a job that has been
extremely well done. We will miss Bill and Dee and we would like to say, “Thanks for being such good
friends.” We wish you the best of everything!
Let’s all enjoy the summer riding season. We hope to see you on a
ride soon!
Most of all, enjoy your ride and make it home SAFE.

Warm Wing Wishes

Training Update from the District University Coordinator

Doug Melanson
Email: dougmel@outlook.com
Phone: 603-560-4738

There is light at the end of the COVID tunnel, and it appears that it’s not on a freight train rushing
toward us! YAY!
With the riding season on us in full now, I know there won’t be much demand for training classes other
than perhaps some riding classes that we may be able to schedule, so I am looking to late-fall / early-
winter to see if we can’t get some classes scheduled at chapter meetings. With that in mind, I am asking
all Chapter Directors to let me know if there are any requests for specific trainings that we can work on
scheduling. Please send your requests to me at dougmel@outlook.com so we can start getting some
classes on the schedule. Once I have an idea of what classes are desired, I can build a schedule and get
instructors assigned, and we can work to getting back to a semblance of normalcy.
In terms of training provided since the last newsletter, we were able to provide First Aid / CPR training
to our University Instructors whose certification had lapsed. Unfortunately, we had to restrict the class
size due to COVID restrictions, but we were able to get all our Instructors current again and all NH-VT
District University Instructors are now able to teach the entire GWRRA University curriculum. Thanks
to Bruce and Sue Luhrs for hosting the class at their home in May.
Remember that we still have the option to attend GWRRA University classes offered by video
conferencing (ZOOM). This continues to be a great way to continue learning while restrictions are
being lifted at various rates and locations around the district as well as for those who may still be
uncomfortable attending in-person classes. To see the list of classes offered and the schedule, check the
Online Class Calendar on the GWRRA University website found at https://gwrradot.com/online-class-
calendar/. To take an online class, remember to preregister on-line on the University website:
gwrradot.com.
As we resume delivering training again, remember that while various training events may be delivered
in conjunction with various chapter meetings or rides, these will all be sponsored by the NH-VT
District and will be open to all GWRRA members, so if you see a class scheduled for delivery at
another chapter’s location, you are invited and encouraged to attend any of these training events.
Ride safely and stay healthy everyone!

NH-VT District - Rider Education Q2 Quarterly Update
July, 2021

GWRRA Rider Education Program – Extended Levels Program Grace Period

For any GWRRA member, whose current Levels Program certification has expired since Jan. 1 st, 2020, the
Grace Period that allows them to be considered current has been extended until June 30th, 2022. All members
should consider taking whatever class or course you need to become or remain current in the Levels
Program.

Get Involved - Share your Enthusiasm for “Friends, Fun, Safety and Knowledge”

From my Rider Education point of view, here’s my overview of what some of the GWRRA officers do that help
promote GWRRA’s benefits of safety as provided by the Rider Education Program:

 District Educator – promotes GWRRA Rider Education, including article-writing for the Chapter
Newsletters, working with the Chapter and District Teams and reporting rider education activities to Team
GWRRA (Home Office). The District Educator works with the District University Coordinator and
Chapter Ride Coordinators to plan Education Events and course offerings.
 Chapter Ride Coordinator – focuses on planning a variety of rides that the Chapter members wish to
take. The Chapter Ride Coordinator shares safety tips and encourages rider safety during pre-ride
meetings and at chapter gatherings.
 District University Coordinator – works with District Educator, Ride Coordinators and Directors to
assess the training needs and plan Education Events. The District University Coordinator will also make
recommendations if additional University Trainers or Instructors are needed.
 Chapter Director – with the help of the Chapter Team and the Chapter members, they coordinate the
monthly gatherings and fun activities. The District Educator and District University Coordinators
encourage and help the Chapter Directors include Education events at gatherings and planned activities.

GWRRA members are encouraged share their enthusiasm for “Friends, Fun, Safety and Knowledge” with other
members and friends. Members should feel free to express their interest in helping any way that they’d like, any
time. Contact the District Directors or specific Chapter Directors for more information. GWRRA Officer Role
Statements can be found on the GWRRA Officer Resources Web Pages and the GWRRA Officer’s Handbook
has all the latest details. Your involvement and enthusiasm make all the difference!
