Yes, Covid is plaguing us! Never nice to see a motorcycle dealer close, no matter the “brand”.
And Covid is still interrupting the Chapters in our District with gathering locations being closed
and event cancellations. But it is nice to see our Chapter members doing their part by wearing masks,
social distancing, and getting out to ride! (Remember to keep a mask in your bike for those planned and
unplanned stops during a day of riding.)
One great things about Goldwings and motorcycling is that everything keeps moving and
nothing stands still for TOO LONG!

On Saturday, July 25th, NH-E hosted a Lunch and Ride starting at the High Tide Restaurant in
Hillsboro, NH. After lunch, Bill Bascom lead a ride through the Lempster Wind Farm and to Walpole
Creamery. We joined NH-G for the ride home following RT 5 in Vermont and then turning towards
Lake Sunapee on our way back to Goffstown. Bonnie and I were overwhelmed and honored as we
were presented with the Senior District Director Award at this event. Thank you to those who
nominated us for this award and to everyone who attended the presentation and all those who have
helped and supported us as NH/VT District Directors. You have all had a hand in this award.

On Friday, August 7th, Bonnie and I took a long weekend to join in the fun at NH-G’s Weekend
Away in Island Pond, VT. We met Mike Vaillancourt and a group from NH-A at the Bow Irving for a
nice ride north along the Connecticut River. When we arrived at the Lakefront Inn & Motel, it was
great to see folks from NH, VT and ME Chapters! We had a great dinner across the street at the Essex
House which had very nice outside seating and featured meals and beverages with what else but “maple
syrup”! After dinner on Friday and Saturday, NH-G treated the group to an Ice Cream Sundae Buffet,
always a great way to end an evening. In the morning, there were muffins, fruit salad, trail mix,
breakfast bars, juice and coffee set up for breakfast.

On Saturday, NH-G’s Mike Vaillancourt, lead a backroads ride through Northern VT and NH.
We stopped for lunch at the Log Haven Restaurant in Errol, visited Beaver Brook Falls in Colebrook
and enjoyed ice cream at Moose Alley Cones in Pittsburg. When we returned to Island Pond, Mike’s
brother came across the lake with his pontoon boat and gave everybody a beautiful ride around the
pond. We certainly slept well that night after such a fun filled day of riding and ice cream X 2!

Sunday morning, while we were out on the deck drinking a coffee, a couple came from the next
door convenience store. They had a flat tire on their bike. The gentlemen said to his co-rider, “See all
those Goldwings at the hotel! I bet they could help us! They are always prepared for emergencies!”
Boy, did HE ever know US! When he asked for our help, several tire plug kits and air
compressors came out and with the help of John Sheehan and Bob Hamel, his tire was repaired. After
their bike was up and running, they joined us for coffee and muffins. Come to find out, the co-rider
was from Nashua and she was up north visiting family and looking for moose! Thank you, Carole &
John Sheehan, NH-G Chapter Directors and NH-G for a great event and a wonderful weekend!

In early September, we received an email from Chris and Carolle Fish, the Chapter Directors of
VT-A, with the unfortunate news that that the Chapter’s Annual Wells-Ogunquit Weekend, scheduled
for Sept 18th – Sept 20th, had to be canceled due to the Covid Outbreak. Bonnie and I kept our
reservation figuring that we could use a weekend of riding in Maine and we could take Friday to ride
the bike north to Levant to visit my mother. When we got to the resort, there were SO MANY folks
that had the SAME idea as we did (with the exception of visiting my mom, of course!) It seems that so
many of our GWRRA friends from the area, including a group from NY, had enjoyed the event that VT-
A held every year, they just had to come and enjoy the weekend. What a tribute to VT-A of their yearly
event and the memories of riding and fun at the Well-Ogunquit weekend.
On Saturday, Bob & Sheila Chevalier of ME-A lead a ride beginning with a stop at the top of
Mount Agamenticus by way of Tatnic Road. (affectionately called the “tail of the seahorse” by Carole
Sheehan) The ride continued along the coast through Kennebunkport, Walkers Point, Cape Porpoise, to
Biddeford. We stopped for lunch at the Clambake Seafood Restaurant at Pine Point Beach so we could
get our weekend’s share of fried clams. After lunch, we continued our ride on backroads and stopping
for ice cream before getting back to the resort. Great ride, Bob & Sheila! A special thanks to Ron &
Andrea Winslow, ME District Directors and ME-A Chapter Directors, for joining us and helping on the
Saturday’s ride. Thank you to Peter and Sarah for hosting another great stay! We are already looking
forward to next year’s VT-A Wells-Ogunquit Weekend…in fact, our reservation is ALREADY MADE!
On Saturday, September 26th, NH-E held a Ride-In for Food, hosted by Bill & Dee Bascom at
their home in Claremont. The cook out held benefited three local food banks. There was a 50/25/25
raffle held, 50% to the winner and the (2) 25% went to the food banks. The weather was perfect for a
fun day; eating, laughing, and all for a great cause.

The last week of September, Bonnie and I attended the on-line GWRRA University Workshop,
GWRRA 101. The workshop consists of 4 Sessions that covers topics about the structure of GWRRA,
the Districts and Chapters. It also covered team building basics, websites and newsletters, GWRRA
officers and responsibilities and finances. The workshop reviewed the Officer’s Handbook and was a
good class for those currently involved in leadership or those seeking to become leaders in GWRRA.
The workshop also benefits members who want to learn more about the structure of the
GWRRA organization. Currently, on-line classes are on hold but will be available again in 2021. So
you may want to consider taking a look at GWRRA 101 as a class option next year.

This is the time of the year most of the Chapters of the NH/VT District choose their Couple of
the Year and their Individual of the Year. If you know of a couple or individual in your chapter that is
enthusiastic, a team player, and a role model within your Chapter, talk to your Chapter Director about
them.

Well, friends, we are almost through this crazy year of 2020. Happy Fall, Y’all….keep riding as
long as the weather lets us. And we can look forward to Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the
NEW YEAR!
Warm Wing Wishes,
Bonnie & David Bolster

Fall Season
Fall is the perfect time of the year to rub around some wax and think what a pleasure it
is to let your mind wonder over the wonderful places our machines have traveled to.
Warm weather or wet weather, still makes me feel a wee-bit younger.
Fall is also a good time to check the rest of the bike/ Trike. Brakes, tires, lights Battery
(I have a sealed jell Battery ), Front forks for leaks, tool kit, First Aid Kit for out dated
supplies.
The best part of Fall spent working on our rides is that you don’t have to rush to get it
the jobs done as it will be some time before the weather will allow us to ride
If you pull a trailer behind your bike/Trike, the Fall season is a good time to check that
trailer too. Wheel bearings, tires, safety chains, lights, spare tier if you have one, and a
lug wrench!
When you can ride, ride safe!

Hello my fellow Goldwing riders,

I hope everyone is surviving the new normal and staying healthy.  The nice thing is we
can easily social distance on bikes and still be able to enjoy the beautiful fall foliage, cool
weather and fresh air. I know it still has it challenges for gatherings, events and eating out etc.
but we should all try to stay positive and try to focus on the good things.
I am writing this to remind chapters that It’s that time of year again that the NH/VT
yearly charter fee of $100 per chapter is due to the district.
The charter fee covers items furnished by GWRRA including charter member rockers, officer
pins and patches, and most importantly an annual insurance premium.  This insurance
protects the GWRRA Officer and designated third parties with liability insurance of several
million dollars.
Unfortunately we were not able to have our District Rally this year due to Covid and I’m
sure many chapters also have not been able to have fund raisers, events and 50/50 raffles
may be less than usual. With that said in order to help our chapters out, I am happy to say
that our District Directors and I have agreed to pay for your chapters dues again this
year.
I hope next year we can get back to normal  and have a district rally, and the great
training classes that GWRRA offers in person again and of course able to have large
gatherings and big hugs for all those who love to hug like me.

Best regards and be well,

Julie Bernier

Training Update from the District University Coordinator

Doug Melanson
Email: dougmel@outlook.com
Phone: 603-560-4738

Restrictions due to the COVID-19 health crisis continue to hamper our ability to provide instructor-led,
in-person training. GWRRA University continues to offer classes by video conferencing (ZOOM),
however. This is a great way to continue learning while we are still restricted from delivering in-person
classes. These online classes have been operating for over 5 months now, with over 120 classes offered
and more than 2,000 participants. To see the list of classes offered and the schedule, check the Online
Class Calendar on the GWRRA University website found at https://gwrradot.com/online-class-
calendar/. To take an online class, remember to preregister on-line on the University website:
gwrradot.com.
Speaking of GWRRA University, the Director of GWRRA University is stepping down from her
position effective September 30th. Clara Boldt was an integral part of training at GWRRA for many
years and she deserves a great deal of gratitude for her insights and leadership; she will be missed.
Lorrie Thomas, University Assistant from Virginia, will serve as Interim Director while a permanent
replacement for Clara is identified.
Regarding the GWRRA Levels Program and Instructor Certifications, the following update was
recently released:
 For all GWRRA members whose Rider Education Levels expired after January 1, 2020, the
Levels Program grace period has been extended to July 15, 2021. This includes members with a
MEDIC FIRST AID® (MFA) or alternative FA/CPR that expired on or after January 1, 2020.
 All UTREP and University Instructors who were eligible to teach in 2020 have had their
instructor certifications extended an extra year, whether or not their Levels are up to date.
 This same grace period is also extended to all University and Rider Education instructors;
however, the following exceptions apply:
o All RE Program Instructors & Trainers (includes on-bike and MFA instructors) not
current in the Rider education Levels Program on or after January 1, 2020 will not be
permitted to present any 100-series University classes with a Levels requirement unless
or until current again at their highest level of achievement.
o All University Instructors & Trainers not current in the Rider education Levels Program
on or after January 1, 2020 will not be permitted to present any 100-series University
classes with a Levels requirement unless or until current again at their highest level of
achievement, however, they may continue to present any other University library
offerings during the Level Program grace extension period through July 15, 2021.

Ride safe and stay healthy!

NH-VT District
Rider Education
Q3 Quarterly Update
October 4, 2020

Safety & Knowledge  Safe Riding

****************************************

Between July 1st and September 30th, the following members “leveled up”
or renewed a certification:

 New Level IV Master Tour Riders/Co-Riders

o Jay Joplin, NH-A; Bruce Luhrs, NH-A
 NH-VT Rider Course Instructor (RCI) Renewal
o Dick Bernier, NH-A

The following District Educator articles were submitted to the NH-VT Chapters’ newsletters:
 July: Motorcycle Goes Where You Look, Shiny-Side-Up Exercises #2,3: Friction Zone & Weaves
 August: Achievements, Parking With A Passenger
 September: Achievements, Rider Education Course Options: MSF eCourses, 3WBRC
Since we’ve had a number of members advance to Level IV Master Rider/Co-Rider status so far this year, we
should recognize all of those NH-VT District members who are Master Riders and Co-Riders.

Level IV (Safety by Enhanced Commitment and Preparedness) is the most prestigious of the Rider
Education Program levels.

These Master Tour Riders/Co-Riders are the finest example of the highest commitment to safe motorcycle
operation and preparedness, shown by a demonstrated history of safe miles and certification in both First Aid
and CPR.

Senior Master, Grand Master and Life Grand Master Tour Riders/Co-Riders are those who have maintained
their active Level IV/Master status for an additional 5, 10 or 15 years respectively.
