1. A manager of a company based in North America is planning a meeting


with colleagues in
Australia. He could hold a video-conference or a face-to-face meeting. A face-
to-face meeting is
when the colleagues attending the meeting are all together physically in one
room.
(a) Give three advantages of holding a video-conference rather than a face-
to-face meeting.
1. There are no travel costs so people are able to be at one place at one time
so this improves the attendance.
 2. Better communication because it is possible to communicate through
images, texts, audio and video, giving better clarity of an idea
3. Lesser travel and time saving would result in a quick and in a quick and
increased returns for the company [3]

(b) Give three disadvantages of holding a video-conference rather than a


face-to-face meeting.
1 Working with laptops is also associated with technical problems like
hardware failure, network issues etc. It will be a loss if problems occur at a
crucial point
2 Even though it is easy to conduct the conference at any time, it is practically
difficult for some people working in different time zones which may lead to
them working more hours.
3 In business, it is important to win trust and respect for the other party but a
video conference may prove insufficient to achieve this. [3]

2. People are buying smartphones rather than desktop computers.

Describe the differences between using a smartphone compared to a desktop


computer.

A smart phone is smaller, therefore it is more portable and is easier to access and use
anywhere , whereas a desktop computer can only be used at one place. 

A smart phone can charge and be removed from the charger, whereas a desktop computer
can only be used charged at one place and it cannot be removed or else it will switch off. 

A smart phone is more data efficient in the sense that it uses less data/wifi than a desktop
computer

A phone is easier to use since it is a device compact onto a smaller screen making it easy
for anyone to use.  [4]

1) The use of robots will lessen the risk of life in a working environment, making it
safer.
2) Robots are more efficient than humans, resulting in higher output rate.
3) Robots do not get tired, they do not take holidays or require breaks, so they work
more hours than humans do. [3]

(b) Give two disadvantages of using robots rather than humans.

1) The programs for the robots are expensive and the robots themselves can be very
expensive. 
2) The robots cannot develop skill while working, and the maintenance of the robot
can also be very costly.[2]

6. List any three advantages of having an internet at a school 


  i) The students are able to seek information from different outlets instead of just
relying on their teachers and text books.
ii) It can result to more productivity in school because it can be used as a treat for the
students if they accomplish a task.
iii) The students can also be able to bridge communication gaps and keep up to date
with other people
