Low-risk Supervision Policy Applied to Recidivism

In 2018 a study was conducted on the release of over four-hundred thousand

prisoners in thirty states, of those forty-five percent committed a crime and went back to

jail within the first year of their release (Clarke, 2019). The Federal Government has

acknowledged that there is an adherent problem with recidivism in America. It is well

known that crime rates are closely associated with recidivism rates, especially in the

lower social classes. We as a nation must come to understand that as we hold those

accountable who commit crimes, we must also allow them the opportunity to reintegrate

into society in the most productive manner possible. There are many policies at every

level of the government as well as within the correctional system, to include privatized

corrections that address the very issue of recidivism. We will utilize this paper to

research and discuss the Low-risk Supervision Policy as it applies to recidivism (Cohen,

It is important for me to understand the policies that dictate how parolees are

managed and how the policies are constructed. The policy chosen will be discussed, but
