Scope 1.1 This specification covers requirements for glass gradu- ated cylinders for precision and general purpose grades suitable for laboratory purposes. L.L.1 Class A—Each cylinder of precision grade shall be ‘marked with the letter “A” to signify compliance with appli ‘cable construction and accuracy requirements. Cylinders may bbe marked with an identification number (serial number) at the ‘option of the manufacturer, 1.1.2 Class B—General purpose cylinders are of the same basic design as Class A cylinders. However, volumettic toler- ances for Class B cylinders shall be within twice the specified range allowed for Class A cylinders. These cylinders need not be marked with their class designation, 1.1.3 Product with a stated capacity not listed in this standard may be specified in class A tolerance when product ‘conforms to the tolerance range of the next smaller volumetric standard product listed in Table 1 2. (See Practice E542 for calibration definitions and procedures.) 4.1.1 Cylinders shall be of borosilicate glass conforming to the requirements for Type I, Class A of Specification E438, 4.2 Shape—Cylinders shall be of one piece consisting in general of a top, a graduated portion of uniform diameter and 4 base. The shape shall permit complete emptying and thor- ‘ough cleaning. The pour-out of Style I, in sizes of 1000 mL and below, shall he located ina vertical pkane bisecting within 5° ‘one of the comers on the hexagonal base. For sizes 2000 mL. ‘and above, the pour-out shall bisect within +° the center of ‘one of the flat section or one of the comers of the base, The pour-out of Style HI shall not protrude beyond the glass reinforcing bead with construction such that, upon falling, the bead shall strike a flat surface before the pour-out or lip. 4.2.1 Base—The base shall be hexagonal and the construc- tion shall be such that the empty cylinder (without stopper for Style 1D, in capscities above 10 mL, shall stand on a surface inclined 15° with the horizontal and, in capacities of 10 mL. or Jess, shall stand on a surface inclined 10° with the horizontal 4.3 Dimensions—The dimensions shall be as shown in Table 1 The glass stoppers of Style I shall conform to Specification F675. 44 Graduation Markings—Graduation markings shall be sharply defined lines of uniform width not more than 0.4 mim, Graduation markings shall be perpendicular to the vertical axis of the cylinder and parallel to each other. Adjacent graduation markings shall be spaced at least | mm from center to center. ‘Markings shall be applied by one of the following methods: ‘etched and filled with a permanent pigment; etched through a Cesyant © AST nts 10 Bar Haro ive PO Box C70, Vest Coehotachan PA A225, Ud Ses Afr ©1272 - 02 (Reapproved 2012) TABLE 1 Dimensions and Tolerances Distance From Scale to ‘War Stanger Taper Terence to Gon oo imum Capscty mt — Main Sreduatont, ggg eo Wal TH 6 (Steppe Soler sw mex mine sesssirm _Mamber” Class A Cis = To oF oF ry oF 2 oe O70 0 10 05, 08 nr) 19 152 010 02 10 to : 02 2 10 152 010 on a 20 io 02 2 ut ies ow ose 2s 60 40 0s o 2% a a ow ome $0” spert00 0 40 » 42 2 025 09 100 too 5. 10 % 2 13 208 080. 100 250 200 109 20 0 90 15 a4 100 200 500 500 250 50 8S 18 soa 200 40 yoo 1000 S00 190 no s 20 ea S00 oo 02000100 mo 8 0 20 a1 800 0 doo S000 2800 0 130 50 22 10 1450, 28.00 7 Tres bow the est numbered ine may bo ood ® Apps to Sie Ion.
