INDUSTRIAL PROFILE

CHATHAM SAW MILL that is how people refers Govrement saw mill
division affectionately yet it is a saw mill complex as part of Andaman forest
department the Chatham island house the age old govt saw mill, affectionately
referred to as Chatham saw mill . it was established in the tear 1883 with the
secondhand imported machines with primary , objective to meet the local
requeirement was timber for constructional works and owned and
administered by the department of environment and forest , Andaman and
Nicobar administered . then saw mill stood as spectator or the rise and fall of
various regimes in the islands since the year 1883 . ever mill was catering to
the need of sawn timber of the islanders for various construction purpose and
as been the backbone of the wood based industrial units in the island . it finds
a place among the big and famous saw mill in the Asian region.

 The mill at present gives direct employment of about 750 employees .

the act include: no worker (adult) shall be
required to work in a factory for more than 48
hours in any week
(section 51): the working hours shall be kept
restricted to 9 hours on any day,

paid holidays, preferably Sunday,
