 ABSTRACT

The main objective of the current topic is to analyze various investment avenues available to the
Indian investor during the study period. The main objective of the study is enlighten the investor
about various modes of saving by evaluating the returns on those investment avenues. The modes
selected for this purpose are few stocks, mutual funds, gold, indices and also overall returns on
insurance industry. Returns have been calculated on these various investment modes using
annualized returns formula, it was found that investment in stock markets yielded more returns
than other modes of investment taken in the sample. Investor can be suggested to keep maximum
investment in stock market followed by mutual funds, insurance products but his portfolio also
depends on risk, magnitude he can take hence investor can be suggested not only to see the returns
but also the risk involved in each mode of investment.
