Narrative Stories (Short Stories) Pre-Assessment

Good morning, writers!

I miss you lots and hope you’re being good for Mrs. Karlsson. Thank you for
your emails yesterday. :) I’m starting to get a tiny bit better and will see you
tomorrow! Yay!

Using what you already know about narrative stories (short stories), please
write a short story below. I will grade whatever you have completed by the
end of the class period today.
Remember: A pre-assessment helps your teacher to understand what you
already know and what you need to learn in the classroom to help you grow!

King Hunter
Long ago in the kingdom of Kalamus, there was a small boy named Tim. Tim was a fine boy,
but his qualities were not recognized because of his appearance.
One day in hunting school Tim realized that nobody was in his group. He asked himself
“Why does nobody want to practice hunting with me?” After a couple of minutes he saw a young
boy approaching him. The boy was a tall boy unlike him. He said “Would you like to practice
hunting with me? Nobody wants to work with me.” Tim obviously accepted, as he did not have a
partner either.
As they entered the woods the boy started asking questions. “Why are you so small?”
“How did you get into hunting school?” “Are your parents wealthy?” Tim suddenly asked the boy
to be quiet. He pulled the arrow back and aimed at a tree. There was a rustle of leaves and as
soon as it stopped, Tim let go of the arrow. A deer fell right to the side of the tree. “Whoa” the
other boy said. “Help me carry it back to the camp”, Tim said.
When the boys got back to the camp they showed the deer to the instructor. The
instructors eyes widened. “Which of ye hunted this here deer?” he said. “I did”, said Tim. All the
other people in the camp stopped what they were doing. “He must be one heck of a hunter.”
said another boy.
And from that moment through Tim’s whole life, he was referred to as King Hunter.
