1. Identify and describe the functions the different organization/agencies responsible for the accreditation
of health care systems. (10 points)

a. The Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) – this non-profit organization’s function
is to promote and apply their principle in all aspect of service in an organization or health care
systems. It promotes to make the members of the health care systems to be a consumer focus
in care provision such as understanding the needs of patients, to make their patient as priority
and evaluating of patients perspective; effective leader with a great commitment and
responsible; and most importantly is always striving for the best service to provide.
b. Australian General Practice Accreditation (AGPAL)- it is a self-governing, non-profit
organization that aims to provide wide range of education and training opportunities in supporting
the practice of the members of health care systems during their accreditation journey. It also
seeks to support the health and community service providers to improve the quality of their
organisation as it is very important thing to do to give a safer and high quality care to the patients.
c. Quality Improvement Committee (QIC) -its role of the Quality Improvement Committee is to
provide advice to the Minister on any health epidemiology and quality assurance matters,
including sponsoring, monitoring and evaluating programmes within the Improving Quality (IQ)
Action Plan. It must specifically deal with perinatal, maternal, infant, child and adolescent
morbidity and mortality issues.

2. Discuss the criteria made for such accreditation. (10 points)

The said organizations have all given their standards or criteria in terms of accreditation wherein
there were a set of criterion that were need to follow and always keep in mind that as provided by the
Higher Learning Commission (2020) by which the Commission determines whether an institution merits
accreditation or reaffirmation of accreditation. The criterions are: Criterion 1. Mission, Criterion 2.
Integrity: Ethical and Responsible Conduct, Criterion such us to ensure fair and ethical behavior on the
part of its governing board, administration, faculty and staff. 3. Teaching and Learning: Quality,
Resources, and Support, Criterion 4. Teaching and Learning: Evaluation and Improvement and Criterion
5. Institutional Effectiveness, Resources and Planning whereas each of this criterion has their own core
components that a member of health care systems must follow. This policy was first adopted in August
1992 and was revised in the year of 2019 which is only proven effective in September 2020.

3. Explain why accreditation is important in the health care system. (10 points)

The importance of accreditation to the health care systems is to ensure that every health care
provider are well trained, has broader knowledge, understanding , ethical, consideration, has a strong and
effective communication skill in terms of consultation or counselling and are patient oriented. Also it is to
ensure that the place where the health care is being provided and practice that they do not only perform
evidence based practices but also give importance to access, affordability, efficiency,
quality and effectiveness of healthcare. Another thing was that to strengthen a certain organization and
prove that it has the ability to provide high-quality care. This process can help maintain compliance of the
health care system with healthcare laws and regulations and keep up to date with industry standards.
