For as long as time records the land of Noxus, ripe with rolling hills and lush meadows,

provided more than any of its citizens could could desire. Noble and commoners alike wanted
for little and few knew the meaning of sorrow. That was before the Sundering; before “the war of
the twins”.

Born the sons of a mining forman, Ash and Porvis were as at home in the depths of the
earth as they were within their own home. Porvis, the elder by two years, would often challenge
his younger brother Ash to sneak into the mines late at night and recover things that he had
hidden there. One night the brothers, now teenagers, decided to descend into the deepest parts
of the mine. For weeks they had been hearing strange stories, men and equipement going
missing; strange ores that tools couldnt break through. So with lantern, rope and pickaxe they
descended.

After hours of climbing they reached that part of the mines their father had never allowed
them to enter before. Here the smooth pathways and sturdy supports of the upper mine gave
way to precarious overhangs and walls so jagged that merely brushing against would tear rents
in flesh. If the boys ever considered turning around they never spoke it as both knew they could
never explain the cuts and bruises they had received to their parents, only by discovering the
secrets of this mine could hope to abate their fathers wrath. Before long they had reached the
end and neither could explain what they saw.

What stood before them was no stone or gem they had ever seen before; cool and
smooth to the touch, it greedily drank in their meager light source like a child who wont share his
sweets and was blacker than a dark room with your eyes closed. The longer they stared at it the
more the brothers felt as though they were staring up into a night sky. With firm resolve the
brothers hefted their picks and began to work the mystery ore.

For hours they worked, trying every technique they could imagine and breaking every
tool they had. With the last of their energy exhausted the bothers colapsed, their backsagainst
the bizarre stone. It would be morning soon and they both knew they could never make it out of
the mine before workers arrived to begin the day.
