CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

The internet is an undeniable need that nobody can avoid; it plays a vital role in almost

every aspects of people’s life. To put it more simply, it solves most of people’s problem by

talking with others through online, conducting essential business meetings via video calls,

searching about homework and school activities and shopping at various online stores. Due to

the tremendous contribution of internet technology to communication and data exchanging,

modern life has grown better for people throughout the world. There is really no denying that the

internet has made life easier and more enjoyable for us. People may use the internet to connect

with people all over the globe, meet new people and learn about various societies, studying and

browse for information, and promote or conduct a business.

The internet has transformed the way people shop because of its many advantages and

benefits. Customers nowadays prefer internet shopping than the traditional way of visiting

different shops. It helps customers to purchase products or services from a store directly over the

internet. When it comes to online shopping there are many benefits compared to a store that

operates on a fixed schedule. Customers can access online shopping places at any time of day.

Customers can find a product they want by going to the store website or searching among

alternative vendors using a shopping search engine, which shows the same product’s availability

and pricing across multiple online stores.

Manny flower is a flower shop exists in Pulilan, Bulacan. The main problem on the said

shop is that it does not have its own system where the manager can store all the information

needed for their flower shop. Manny flower still uses forms for keeping the records of their daily
sales. They have difficulties on managing their inventories since it was just recorded on paper.

The manager of the shop has to manually update their inventory every time they have a new

product or some of them have been removed. The shop also faced some difficulties on tracking

their sales because it was just being recorded manually in a form.

The researcher goal is to provide solution the problems that Manny flower encountered

through the development of online shop website for Manny Flowers that have information and

inventory management system. The researcher wants to create a system that can help the shop for

their inventories, daily sales record, and order tracking. The online flower shop system is a

website where the customer can browse different types of flowers available on the Manny

Flowers shop. The website shows the information of all the products that has been displayed on

the user’s screen. The customer can customize his own design of bouquet depending on what he

or she wants. The customers have to create their own account in order to make transaction on the

system. Every product that the customer’s buy will be stored in their s

Purpose and Description

The main purpose of the website is to allow the customer to purchase and customized

flower products using computer or any electronic device. The proposed website gives benefits to

the following beneficiaries:

Customer: The customer can browse and purchase through the website rather of wasting

time and gas going from home to store to purchase flowers, you may save time and money by

shopping online. There is no need to queue or wait for store employees to complete purchases.

This website offers better prices and discount because the products directly come from the store.

Additionally, customer can also design their own preference of bouquet and flower sets. This
study can also assist the customer in selecting a product and in determining what is best based

upon on customer’s preferences.

Shop Owner: The proposed project will benefit the shop owner to create better methods

on managing sales and orders in less time while also assisting them in tracking of customer’s

order. Additionally, it lessen the possibility of losing records and improve the keeping of the

records.

Staff: The proposed project will make it easier for the staff to prepare all of the

customers’ orders. Without using a manual system, the system is able to generate order list

details that assist the staff in preparing the customer’s order and delivery details.

General Objective

The main purpose of this study is to develop an online shop website for Manny Flowers

in order to improve their current system of selling and marketing their products. Manny Flowers

uses a traditional way of keeping their records and data sales where they use forms and log books

for storing data and we all know that this kind of storation is prone to data loss and consumes

more space for the files to be kept. Selling their products becomes hard because of the pandemic

that’s why the researcher decided to do this study and to give them an opportunity on selling

their products online with monitoring orders, sales, and inventory.

Specific Objective

1. To develop a system that will provide data sales records and products inventory.
2. To develop a website that displays all the information of the products and allows the

customers to customize their own design and combination of different products that are

available in the shop. It is intended to develop with following features:

3. To implement the system and evaluate its performance based on the following criteria:

Scope and Delimitations of the Study

The study aims to develop a website that can handle online ordering and customization

for the customer to easily purchase and design bouquet or flower sets and because the store only

uses a manual method to generate reports and only uses social media or messaging to transact

and interact with customers. The system is made up of many significant aspects that are designed

to meet the needs of both the business and the customers. The website has two level access
which is the administrator and guest. Administrator is entirely responsible for the system’s

management and monitoring. The guest can browse and be able to select specific flowers. For

flower designing, a customization page is available where you can decorate and design different

sizes of bouquet and put different types of flowers.

However, the study’s limitations include: Customers must have access to the internet in

order to view products and complete transactions. The user should create an account first in order

to make transactions. The website would not cover direct transactions between the administrator

and the customer, it would only collect information from customers for the purpose of making

contact.
CHAPTER II

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE/SYSTEMS

This chapter showcases previous studies and publications relevant to the project and

gives light as to what motivated the researcher in pursuing the specific field of study. This

section also deals with features, capabilities, and limitations of existing work, algorithms, or

software that are related/similar to the project.

Related Literature

According to the article on krify.co, entitled “Website Design and Development

for Flower Business” posted in September 2019, there are things that the researcher should focus

when developing a florist online shop website. First, it should be easy to navigate. One of the

most important things on creating a website is the user-friendly design which attracts the user. To

be within the best, the system wishes to optimize the web page and have an easy way on

navigation for the displaying products and search engines. The developed website should be

available on mobile devices and desktop to make more accessible to every user. And also, to

have a higher chance of success, the online florist website should be connected to social media

advertisement like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other successful social media platforms.

Second, the online florist website should have a unique and attractive Logo design. Since the

Logo becomes the representation of the shop, it should be unique, eye-catching, and beautiful in

order to be set apart to the other competitors. Third, it should have a good delivery system.

Before launching the online florist website, the owner should have a well-coordinated and

dedicated courier or delivery system in place because the quality and on-time delivery are
important to the customers. Fourth, the developer should be knowledgeable to the customer or

target audience through market research. The website should be advertised to the target

audiences or customers. The developer should do a market research in order to identify which

most likely to purchase online from the florist shop. The online florist website can be marketed

through informing some wedding planners, event planners, local businesses and hotels on

enlisting the website. Lastly, the website can interact with other service providers. Sometimes, is

better to add some gifts to the bouquets in such case that the website have to interact with the

suppliers of such items to provide timely service to the customers.

One of the problems that the shop of Manny Flower is facing is the poor

inventory management and this is one of the goals of the researcher to provide a good inventory

management system integrated on the online flower shop website. “An inventory management

system helps organizations account for all incoming and outgoing stock to better meet customer

demand and avoid the expense of overstock or loss of business with stock outs. The system

impacts every essential business function including accounting, production, warehouse

management, purchasing, sales and customer service.” (Jenkins, 2020).

The article of Abby Jenkins, entitled “Must-Have Inventory Management

System Features, Requirements, and Modules” posted on August 26, 2020 states that the

specifications of a good inventory management system include providing a way to store,

organize, manage, and analyze inventory data. The articles also indicated the requirements of the

systems which are the following: an easy-to-use interface that doesn’t requires training, support,

or documentation for the user; Automation for eliminating manual processes of business

functions related to inventory management; A reliable, secure database that provides accurate,

real-time data; Performance of the system that enables fast actionable inventory monitoring and
control; and software integrations and automated features that minimize manual inventory

updates or inputs.

The said article also provide some things to consider on creating inventory

management features which are the cloud infrastructure, Internet of Things (IoT) integrations,

digital labeling, mobile systems, and machine learning and AI. In cloud infrastructure, the cloud-

based software is scalable, and a cost-effective solution. Through cloud computing, the

organization doesn’t have to hire dedicated staff to manage and maintain those systems also the

cloud infrastructure also enables the automated backups, secure access and real-time

collaboration across multiple locations. In IoT integrations, the developer can use the internet of

things movement to have a better security against data theft and loss. In digital labeling, the

developer can use its features like GPS-enabled RFID tags and digital barcoding. With digital

inventory data, the organizations can now handle devices through network with database for real-

time tracking and paperless documentation. And lastly, in machine learning and AI, the way on

how business share inventory availability to ecommerce customers is changing through the Ai-

empowered virtual agents or chatbots. The developer can use machince learning algorithms to

communicate out-of-stock inventory, make recommendations based on an active shopping cart or

the history of the user. Machine learning can also be used to improve internal inventory controls

and avoid shortages.

Anigbogu et al. (2011) worked on an intelligent model for sales and

inventory management. In their work, they focused on the mutual impacts of trends in inventory

management and artificial intelligence after observing the need for emergence of inventory and

intelligence, also the difference between theory and practices of inventory, the workable

approach presented still possess some restrictions because they are built on standalone systems
which was not sufficient enough to capture the growing performance inventory optimization,

also the database used has a limited space and cannot accommodate large data.

According to Lopienski (2019), Ecommerce order tracking helps you to keep track of all

of your online orders and shipments, as well as update your clients on the status of their

purchases at any time. Shipment tracking, anticipated delivery dates, and regular order status

updates are all included in ecommerce order tracking. Together, these things play a key role in

the customer experience, letting buyers know what to expect for their delivery and being notified

of any delays.

Related Systems

Hasan (2016), worked on web based application for online shopping. His

work was only developed but not implemented. His study is all about the web based online

shopping system which focuses to business-to-customer aspect of electronic commerce (e-

commerce) of the World Wide Web. Hasan used MySQL as a database, and used HTML, CSS,

JAVA , Javascript, and server side scripting language PHP on developing the online web system.

According to his findings upon developing the web based online shopping application, he found

out that there are requirements that can be added to the system like the online payment method

using Paypal, Gcash, Paymaya, and other trusted banking application.

Adithya et al. (2017), worked on proposed online food ordering system.

Their proposed system is all about the use of android devices where the customers or user will be

able to order food online either on a restaurant or a Mess. On their study, they stated that it is

important to have a feedback on every product that has been delivered to the customers because
it can affect the assessment of other customer or user on the system. The user should be able to

track their ordered products through GPS. In terms of the payment system, they also stated that

the system should provide an option for the customer on paying either online, or in pay-on-

delivery system and each user should have their own id and password to make it more secured on

ordering.

According to Madamidola (2017), in his work entitled “Web – Based Intelligent

Inventory Management System”, all around the world, inventory managers are faced with the

complexities of simultaneously striving to retain constant manufacturing operation, render

quality and adequate services to customer and keep goods at optimum level as well as having

proper inventory management policy in place. This work developed an intelligent system

implemented in a web based environment to integrate multiple stores also providing an effective

coordination of all of the stores, intelligently determining the different reorder points of all the

disparate stores in the systems and communicating the information back to the centralized store

using Java Remote Method Invocation with a secure socket layer, implemented using My

Structured Query Language, Database Management System, Hypertext Markup Language,

JavaScript, Hypertext Preprocessor and Xampp. The work optimized the performance of

inventory management integrating multiple systems and providing an efficient coordination and

monitoring moving away from single store into distributed system relating real time status of

supplies at the different stores.

Synthesis of the Study

Upon studying the different related studies, articles, and systems, the researcher finds out

the things that should be consider on developing the proposed online flower shop website. Such

as improving the system of delivering and tracking of the customer’s order, providing a more
secured and efficient way of payment system for online and in on-delivered payment, developing

a website with an ease of navigation and user friendly interface, and developing a convenient and

accurate inventory systems for the shop of Manny Flower.
