These yummy little treats are so much more than just delicious, they are a raw living food alive with active
probiotic bacteria. Supplementing the diet with these bites can improve a dog’s health in many different ways.

Made locally with very simple ingredients: live heritage yogurt cultures, raw yam, and raw organic germinated
oats, they provide a gut-healthy supplement for your furry loved one.

The ingredients are combined and dried gently at approximately 100 F to maintain the enzymes and beneficial
bacteria needed for your dog's optimal digestion.

Yogurt

Why is fermented food so important for your dog's health?

Well, a healthy gut is central to good health overall, for both you and your pet. An unhappy bacterial colony can
lead to inflammation, gas, nausea, constipation, diarrhea, indigestion, flatulence, bad breath, skin and fur issues,
digestive problems, even mood disturbances, and over time cancer can develop. Supplementing the diet with
live bacteria can treat yeast infections and itchy skin conditions, boost immunity, improve digestion and increase
absorption of dietary nutrients.

Our heritage yogurt culture is grown in Vancouver Island organic milk.

Whole Oats

Oats provide a form of soluble fibre which feeds gut bacteria so they can thrive to help create a healthy bowel
environment.
As a source of good fiber, they also promote a feeling of fullness so are useful if restricting calories.
They are a good source of easily absorbed protein, vitamins, and minerals. including biotin and other nutrients
need for a healthy coat and skin.
The oats used in these snacks are soaked overnight then rinsed to remove much of the phytic acid. Although
some phytic acid is beneficial for bone mineralization and antioxidant benefits, too much can block the
absorption of such minerals as zinc, iron and calcium.
The overnight soaking also triggers germination, a change which increases the nutrient and enzyme content of
the oats and makes them easier to digest.

Raw Yam

Yams are rich in minerals, Vitamin C, and Beta Carotene to help maintain healthy bones, nerves, muscles,
immunity, eye sight, skin, and more. Yam is also a good source of fibre for digestive health as well as being low in
fat. We use only locally or organically grown yams

Bone Broth

The addition of bone broth to these snacks really boosts both nutrient and healing aspects. A decent source of
protein and other nutrients, bone broth is also rich in collagen, a key nutrient for bowel, stomach, bone,
cartilage, even skin and coat health and healing! We use chicken broth because of it's higher levels of collagen
type II, the most important type for joint repair and maintenance.

The Flavours
Turmeric

This spice has been getting a lot of air time recently, and for good reason; it is beneficial on several levels, as
people from India have known for hundreds if not thousands of years.
It has high antioxidant levels to protect cells and organs from free radicals that cause inflammation, ulceration,
even cancer. It works to reduce inflammation where ever it may be found in the entire body, be it joint,
gastrointestinal, asthma, and even inflammatory skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis
It works in the stomach to soothe indigestion and nausea, even ulceration. This support extends to the liver and
gall bladder where it protects, detoxifies and regenerates liver tissue.
As well it is a strong lipid anti-oxidant, which means that it protects fat cells from damage, it boosts insulin
activities, and inhibits gram positive bacteria.
All this from a humble seasoning!

Brewer's Yeast

A byproduct of the brewing industry, brewer's yeast is rich in B vitamins for a healthy nervous system, perfect for
nervous breeds. (B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9), antioxidants, and also high in minerals for optimal organ function;
selenium, potassium, chromium, iron, zinc, and magnesium.
This nutritious substance is nourishing to the nervous system, and so helpful for anxiety; supports many cell and
organ functions including the all-important liver; promotes healthy skin, hair, and eye health. People find that
their dogs have shinier coats and less itchy dry skin and less shedding when feeding with brewer's yeast. They
also find that fleas, ticks, and other insects bother them less.

Greens

While dogs must eat a great deal more protein than us, they are still omnivores and require vegetables as well.
Greens are a necessary component in a healthy diet, are rich in phyto-nutrients, help with detoxification, and
work to prevent cancer. Black Dirt Green snacks are loaded with freshly harvested local dandelion greens and
kale and supplemented with chlorophyll to boost the antioxidant and deodorizing effect.
Greens provide a dog with fiber, vitamins, and minerals for optimal bowel function, antioxidant protection,
improved organ health, and help with immunity and energy. Dandelion leaves support healthy kidney function,
greens in general are rich in chlorophyll which has a deodorizing effect contributing to better breath, reduced
gas, and improved body odor.

Dosage advice

These snacks are a functional food and may cause transitional bowel changes as your dog's colon adjusts, so use
sparingly for the first few days. In general, a few every day will supplement the diet but these are safe to use in
higher amounts therapeutically.
