scheduled for different surgical procedures and patients who do
not want to participate in the research.

One group received education about the surgery while another

group received education about the surgery and a motivational
interview, and both groups received the APAIS scale (Amsterdam
Preoperative Information and Anxiety Scale).
3 sessions of motivational talks were developed.

consisted of 28 participants in the intervention group and 27
patients in the control group, where it is evident that the control
group, which received the motivational session, significantly
decreased anxiety while the intervention group did not decrease
significantly.

In this study on the effect of a nursing intervention based on

motivational interviewing for the reduction of preoperative
anxiety in patients scheduled for knee replacement surgery, the
study revealed that after a follow-up the anxiety score was lower
in the group control than intervention.

Despite nursing interventions, anxiety continues to be a problem

in patients, however nursing has shown that visits during the
CONCLUSIONES preoperative stage reduce anxiety and postoperative
complications in patients scheduled for surgery.
Therefore, the studies recognize the importance of the
communication skills that the nurse must have for the approach
and care of the patient before a surgical event.
The conclusion of this study is that the nursing intervention based
on the motivational interview was effective in reducing
preoperative anxiety in patients scheduled for knee replacement
surgery.
