Introduction
Every day, a huge amount of information and knowledge is generated in the age of
technology. Gaining knowledge, discovering new science, and contributing to society by sharing
our experience and knowledge are no longer confined to the confines of a classroom. Even in
countries with low economic results, the number of people who can access the Internet is rapidly
growing. As a result, knowledge production and transformation processes have accelerated
(Miranda, 2018).
It is recommended every universities and institutions to ease the access of school data,
happenings and events for its students. This could be achieved by designing and having an online
website. In addition, and as a response to the growing number of university enrolled students,
there is a basic need to organize the information related to the different students’ affairs and to
enable them doing their important activities. Thus, a sub university website called student
supporting system or student portal usually exist in most of universities websites. Some of the
utilities students can do are; checking exams’ results, checking school events, reviewing the
study plan and schedules, sighting of grades and subjects, and many other things.
The goal of the system is to let teachers post activities; let students submit their works;
and let faculty/staffs post updates regarding school activities and such.
The theory deals with the way in which different individuals use media and the
gratification they derive from its use. Folarin (1998, p.22) notes that the theory is basically
concerned with questions of who, which media, which content, under which condition and for
what reason? In addition, the theory is concerned with what media people use, how they use the
media, and what enjoyment learners get from the media.
This theory, according to West and Turner (2004), is an extension of Abraham Maslow's
need and motivation. There is a need hierarchy. The fulfillment of one need leads to the
emergence of another. To a different requirement the authors of Elihu, Blumler, and Gurenvitch
(1974) were Elihu, Blumler, and Gurenvitch. Maslow's theory (1954) inspired me to study how
people think. Mass contact is consumed. Their discovery spawned The Theory of Uses and
Gratification. The theory is important to this paper because it helps to decide how people use
student portals in their educational activities and how they relate to the overall corporate image
of colleges and universities.
The study is focused on the creation of a web portal using a web development
framework. It can be easily introduced without much change in any organization. User
friendliness, data stability, and data maintainability are some of the user requirements. This
project includes both of these criteria. Only approved users, referred to as admin users, and are
allowed to perform maintenance.
The purpose of this study is to determine how necessary and needed student’s portal to be
implemented in schools/universities.
General Objectives
The general objectives are to:
1. Develop and implement a student portal on campus that will benefits members, students,
and the institution's administration.
2. Find how the performance of each individual in an institution eg. student, staff and
faculty can be influenced by the introduction of a student web portal.
Specific Objectives
Scope
The students can view their grades, view and submit activities, check class schedule,
view school events, etc. The system is password protected. The system automatically back up the
database.
Limitations
Only enrolled students of the university can access the system. It cannot be used for
conversation. The system cannot print any of the provided information.
