Republic Day in India is celebrated on 26 th January every year. It is a national holiday.................1
commemorating the transition of India from a British dominion to an Independent republic. In
wake of the British declaring their exit from Indian soil, a Constitution drafting committee was
appointed to draft the Constitution for India. The drafting committee presented the draft to the
then President Dr. Rajendra Prasad on 25 th November 1949, which was adopted by the
constituent assembly the next day on 26 th November 1949. However, the Constitution of India
came into effect only on 26th January 1950, transforming dominion of India into Republic of
India. It is this day on 26th January every year that we celebrate as Republic Day........................1
