The main difference between spermatogenesis and spermiogenesis is that

spermatogenesis is the formation of sperm cells whereas spermiogenesis is the
maturation of the spermatids into sperm cells. This means spermatogenesis is
the complete process of the production of the sperm cells from the cells of the
germinal epithelium of males. Spermiogenesis, on the other hand, is the final
differentiation and maturation process of the spermatids into sperm cells.

Spermatogenesis:
1. It is the process of the formation of haploid
spermatozoa (sperms) from the undifferentiated diploid
primordial germ cells of the testes.

2. It involves multiplication phase, growth phase,

maturation phase and differentiation phase.

3. A spermatogonium produces four spermatozoa

(sperms).

Spermiogenesis:
1. It is the process of the transformation of spermatids
into spermatozoa (sperms).

2. It involves only differentiation phase, therefore, it is a

part of spermatogenesis.
3. One spermatid develops into one spermatozoon.
