GUIDELINES FOR RESUME BUILDING

Students must prepare their resume in the format provided by CDC keeping in mind the following
specifications regarding the same:

General Guidelines

1. The resume must not exceed one page


2. The font size of the full name must be ‘18’, that for the rest of the text should be
exactly ‘9’ and the font type should be ‘Calibri’
3. Text must be properly justified
4. In case a student does not have any information to provide under a particular
heading, he or she can remove the heading
5. No full stops are required at the end of every point mentioned under every heading
6. The resume must contain the college logo as the background along with the
following mentioned in footer:
 Career Development Centre
 College Name and Address
 E-mail address of the placement cell

Section 1: Header and Educational Qualifications

1. Full name must be written in CAPITAL letters, with font size ‘18’ and font type
‘Calibri’.
2. Personal information must be ordered and aligned in the manner as shown above.
Students must mention only their permanent address in their resume.
3. It is mandatory to mention 'Finance' or 'Marketing' in brackets as their third year
specialisation along with BMS and the relevant stream along with AISSCE as shown.
BBA (FIA) students have to mention their course name as BBA (Financial Investment
Analysis).
4. Performance (till 4th semester) should be mentioned as shown above with the words
‘Till 4th Semester’ in brackets.
Use the following formula for CGPA Calculation:
(Total Credit Points Earned In all 4 Semesters / Total of Credits)
5. City must be mentioned along with the school name.
6. Academic performance is to be shown in the following manner:
- For grade X, AISSE: CGPA (CBSE board) or percentage (any other board apart
from CBSE), whichever is applicable
- For grade XII, AISSCE: percentage along with absolute scores out of 500 (in case
of 5 subjects). For students who appeared for more than 5 subjects, aggregate
marks will be calculated considering marks of Maths, English and any 3 subjects
mentioned in List A of DU admission criteria as follows:

7. For ‘Any other educational qualifications’ field, following guidelines are to be


followed:
A. For exams like CA, CS, students may mention their score till the date when the
resume is being authenticated, and update it later during the next resume
authentication process
B. In case of an online course, a student must specify the name of the online
platform (Like edX, Coursera) along with the University Name.
C. For courses like NCCMP. IFMFE etc. which are jointly offered by NSE/BSE and
SCCBS, students must mention ‘National Stock Exchange/Bombay Stock Exchange
and Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies’ in the ‘Institution’ column.

Section 2: Internships, Live Projects (And Startups) and Projects Undertaken


1. The heading ‘Internships, Live Projects (and Startups) can be modified as per
the contents of that section. For example, a student not having a startup can
remove the word ‘startup’ from the heading. However, the nomenclature
cannot be changed.
2. Heading for any internship/live project should follow the format ‘Company
Name – Department Name/ Profile’
3. All the internships and live projects should be mentioned in reverse
chronological order. The duration should be written in square brackets
specified in terms of number of weeks or months and should be bold. The
minimum duration for a valid internship is 6 weeks or above; otherwise it
would be considered as a Live Project
4. The description must be brief and key words should be in bold. Kindly refer to
the ‘Placement Docket’ sent earlier for tips regarding the same.
5. Name of any Project Undertaken should follow the format ‘Project Name
(Subject)’ and should be followed by a very brief description.

Section 3: Awards and Achievements and Positions of Responsibility

1. The format for each and every point must be followed meticulously as shown.
2. Dates (Only the years) must be specified in bold square brackets following the
reverse chronological order.
3. One should mention only the significant achievements in this section according
to his/her own discretion.
4. Students writing (N+) podium finishes in a particular discipline will have to
produce certificates for the same during authentication.

Following rules are to be followed while writing Positions of Responsibility in the resume:

1. A Society/Organisation Name cannot come more than once

- Other positions held during various years can be specified in the description.

Note: The durations specified above are just for reference. Every society may have their
own structure according to which the duration is to be specified.

3. Any position held during a society event cannot be mentioned separately as a PoR; it
must be mentioned within the description of the PoR held at the respective society.

Section 4: Other Interests and Activities

Students must specify only the significant activities undertaken in a very brief fashion. This
section can also be used for articulating any interest/ hobby etc.
