A square concrete reservoir of 24 x 24 x 4 m used for irrigation is illustrated below. The ground
floor slab is 300 mm thick and subjected to an ultimate moment of 50 kNm and a service
moment of 30 kNm. Calculate the reinforcement of mature concrete if complete movement joints
are provided in the centre .

Consider the reservoir to be of class B and the minimum cover is 40 mm for a concrete grade of
25 MPa. Available steel Y10 and Y16 only.

Assuming that the soil behind the walls carries a live load of 5 kN/m2 and has the following
properties:
Q = 30ᵒ

g = 5 kN/m2

Bearing Capacity = 200 kPa

Fcu = 25 MPa; Fy = 450 MPa.

Provide the necessary reinforcement in the walls and check if the crack width in mature
concrete satisfies the serviceability condition.
