My professional Developmental Plan Reflection

KRISPRIFHE C. DAVID

Being a teacher for me is not only a noble profession but a lifetime vocation. Everyday you’ll get the chance to motivate young people and use your
skills to give something back – making sure every student gets the same quality education and opportunity to succeed.
Making my professional development plan was not easy. However, making a plan is necessary to be a 21 st century teacher. The activities
mentioned in the plan are namely: attending seminars, conferences and trainings in mu field of specialization; pursuing post graduate studies in my
major field; registering to educational sites and other websites in line with the field of specialization; coaching different contests; giving technical
assistance to newly hired teachers.
This PDP will serve as my guide to become a 21st century teacher as I continue molding young minds. Since we are living in the field of a
developing educational system, there is a need for me to have a constant upgrading of teacher’s knowledge, skills and attitude in order to
effectively transfer the appropriate knowledge to my students. Without plan or vision, my attention will not focus as it is. It’s like building a house.
You need a plan before building. Same is true with teaching that is why, I am thankful that I have prepared one for me. It helps me know where I
am headed and how to get there. Specially, This PDP will help us materialize our dreams to continue our education and seek more knowledge while
we are still able and capable.
The activities in the PDP will not sharpen as a teacher but will also serve as my guide in teaching the best way I can to produce a 21 st century
teacher. Indeed, becoming a 21st century educator is a must in order to cope with the fast changing 21 st century educational system. Dedication,
willingness to learn, and passion are the attributes that I possess to be a 21 st century teacher. It may be hard to achieve your plan, but if you are
very much willing to learn for the student’s sake no strong wall will not break. Making the PDP makes me realized that I am ready to conquer every
challenge. It also gave me confidence in pursuing my vision that is to be a 21 st century teacher.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT PLAN
Philosophical Statement

The atmosphere of an ideal classroom depends on the kind of teacher assigned on a particular classroom and how she manages her classroom in
such a way that the classroom will be a sound place for students’ learning-where students tell their own stories, make new experiences, share each other’s
insights and feelings, express themselves and discover new things. Once a teacher has a passion for teaching and has a heart for students, he/she will never
feel tired, bored and monotonous in his/daily routines in the classroom most especially in dealing with students. If a teacher is inspired to teach and always
dreams of making her students become successful individuals, the teacher will always find ways and means to deliver the lesson the best that he/she can.
As a teacher, I will not only be an agent of child’s transformation but I am responsible in sharpening the learner’s mind and shaping his bright
future. I will act as a facilitator of learning in the classroom. I must possess the qualities of a 21st century teacher and I must be a role model to my
students in all aspects. Each learner must learn freely and must demonstrate the characteristics of a 21st century learner. I, as a teacher, have a great role
to carry out the responsibility of producing globally competitive learners.

Classroom Rules and Procedure

Classroom rules are very important, for without it there will be no order in the classroom. My classroom rules include order and cleanliness of the
classroom, safety and students’ behavior. I want to formulate a positive classroom rules if possible so students will perceive the rules positively and would
not think of those rules as a threat. My rules should be gender sensitive and not culturally biased. Students must bank on the 2 greatest commandments of
God which states that “Love God above all and love your neighbor as you love yourself” and the golden rule of Confucius (Analects 15:3) which states that
“Do not do to others what you do not want done to yourself.” These two will serve as basis or guiding rule for them to follow.

Here are some of the rules to be posted on the board:

Classroom Cleanliness and Orderliness

1. Thank you for segregating your trash properly.
2. Please arrange the chairs properly before leaving.
3. Help keep this room clean.
4. Kindly return the things on its proper place.
5. Breathing a clean air from a clean and orderly classroom makes everyone as happy as a bee.
Safety
1. Thank you for turning off the lights and unplugging the ceiling fans after the class.
2. Please be careful not to overcharge your cellphones.
3. Please turn off computers when not in use.
Students’ Behavior
1. Let’s show respect to one another regardless of who and what they are.
2. Please refrain from shouting, yelling and uttering bad words, instead use kind words.
3. Raise your hand for questions.
4. Listen to others when they are talking during class discussions.
5. Love your classmate/schoolmate instead of bullying them.
6. Wear always your smile and be courteous to everyone.
7. Kindly call your classmates by their names and not by their labels.

Throughout the last century, traditional teaching methods have undergone significant changes; brought on by social, cultural and technological
developments. In the 21st Century Classroom setting, I believe that one of the best teaching styles is the FACILITATOR STYLE.
On classroom procedures, I will not start my class unless everything is in order and clean. I will set first the mood of the students. I can show them some
video clip or let them listen to a song. I will not be doing any lengthy discussions on the topic. Most of the period will be spent on the given activity wherein
the teacher will only act as a facilitator. Activities given will be according to their multiple intelligences.
A strategy for this will be DIVERSE GROUPING. I will group my students into fully active learners, responsible students, halfhearted workers and work-
avoiders. I will make sure that my students become active participants in my class. There should be collaborative learning among learners.
Classroom Arrangement

The classroom arrangement is a big factor that can contribute to the learner’s enthusiasm to report to school every day. If a classroom is conducive to
learning, they can easily absorb the lessons and there will be less distraction. My dream as a teacher is to have an Electronic Classhome where students can
learn actively and engage into varied activities. I want my students to feel that they are in their own homes while at school. My ideal classroom
arrangement will be a spacious one where I can freely supervise them individually with complete facilities, electronic gadgets and fixtures. Computers will
be aligned near the walls of the classroom with individual chairs. At the center of the room there will be an electronic blackboard or interactive white
board. The class will no longer use the traditional chalk and eraser or white board pens. The electronic blackboard or interactive white board has touch
screen for easy use of students. This will look like a big computer in the classroom.

They can do everything they want there. If students are absent, they can still follow the lessons of the day by copying the discussions and activities
in their USBs since the electronic blackboard has a built in USB hub. The chairs and tables are movable. The learners can sit anywhere they want to sit.
There will be round tables so learners can freely interact with their co-learners most especially when there are small group discussions. Facing each other
allows learners to have eye contact with each other to establish healthy relationship and rapport with their peers. This will help the learners build
confidence in communicating with others.

The tables where computers are installed must have headset most especially when the lesson is about speech, they can easily follow correct
pronunciation of words. The classroom must also contain a mini-library with books, periodicals, references and instructional materials displayed in a glass
shelf. There are shelves also for instructional materials and school forms and reports. There will be bulletin boards in the classroom for BEIS, arts, students‟
outputs, theme and display for the month celebration, English speakers of the week, and roll of honors per grading period. There will be a surround sound
system installed on top of the corners of the room. The classroom must have a comfort room, and a drinking facilities like water dispenser and glasses for
students. There will be 2 big trash cans labeled as Biodegradable and Non-biodegradable. The classroom must have several windows so that air can pass
through easily or with air condition. I believe that the classroom’s set up has a big effect on the student’s learning and I hope that my classroom will be an
environment or venue for students to engage in critical thinking, discussions and reflection.
Misbehavior Intervention

Instead of focusing solely on the misbehavior in the classroom, I want to focus on the good behavior and attitudes of students by posting their
names of their good deeds in the classroom and congratulating them for their good behaviors. This is the HALL OF FAME STRATEGY. I can recommend them
also to be an awardee for good conduct at the end of the school year. During the PTA meeting, I will also recognize parents of students who are good
performers in the class and those with good behaviors. If there will be problems encountered, then I will act as a Guidance Counselor in the classroom. I
will not ignore any problem inside the classroom no matter how small it is.
I will call the attention of those students who misbehave in class and talk to them heartily. I will be looking at the cause of their misbehavior and
listen to their stories. I will have a listening heart for them. I believe that most of our students‟ misbehavior are deeply rooted from the family’s upbringing
or his environment. So I will continue my home visitation to students with problems and talk to their parents. Problems that cannot be solved in my level
will be referred to the Guidance Office or to the Principal’s Office.
Classroom Safety
The safety of the classroom is everyone’s concern. I will request an electrician from our school to inspect the electrical wirings most especially the outlets
for computers to avoid short circuit. I will see to it that there will be no octopus connection of my outlets. I’ll see to it that all wirings, outlets, electric bulbs
are properly installed and covered. I will prohibit the students to bring sharp objects. Pair of scissors and other sharp objects will be kept inside the cabinet
in case there are students who are fighting inside the room they won’t be using it to stab other students. I will not allow bullying in the classroom. I will call
the attention of bullies and give them warnings. I will also inform their parents to follow up their behavior. I will let each learner feel that he/she is part of
the group and each one of them is wanted in the group and there will be no discrimination among them.
Student Celebration
Success in any given job needs reward or positive reinforcement. In the classroom, we need to motivate the students through giving them positive
reinforcement. By simply appreciating the works and answers of our students through our kind and complimentary words, we can make them feel happy
and inspired to do the thing again. Reward system can be one of the positive reinforcements but if done repeatedly, it forms some kind of distorted values.
Some students will only perform or show goodness if there are rewards. I want to give them positive reinforcement in such a way that they inculcate in
their minds the value of what they are doing and not because of the reward they can get. Words of praise and encouragement will be like stamps printed
in the hearts of our young learners. But we can’t totally evade from giving rewards to students because this has been their orientation at home. I can
exhibit their work in the bulletin board to boost their confidence and advertise their God-given talent. Those students with artworks will be displayed in
strategic places in the classroom. I will encourage students to be a performer in the class. Students with academic honors will have their names posted in
the bulletin board. I will also make a chart on the English Speakers of the Week. Students who constantly speak English the whole week will be given chips
with corresponding points. The student will keep those chips the whole grading period and submit to the teacher for the recording of scores before the
periodical exam.
REFLECTION
from CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT PLAN

After the consultation of my classroom management plan, I learned and realized that I should consider the
economic status of the school, the community and the students who enrolled in our school.

I realized that the materialization of my ideal learning environment will depend on how I take efforts to tap LGUs
or the stakeholders to support my proposal. Since this type of classroom is expensive, then it will take a longer time
to procure some of the necessary things needed like the interactive white board or electronic blackboard, sound
system and computers.

I know that someday these will be materialized through concerted efforts of the teacher, school and
stakeholders.

Having this classroom will create an environment for active learning and exchange of ideas, experiences and
dreams.

The learners will benefit much from this plan.

The plan is very ideal and it’s up to me on how to apply this plan in reality and what modifications will I make in order
to suit my learning environment to the kind of students I have.
