If you were to apply the interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary concepts in Social Studies

teaching, how would you do it? Explain this by using the subject offerings in social studies.

A.   How do you use the interdisciplinary concept in social studies at the Philippines secondary
level?
The Interdisciplinary or integrative studies is what happens when researchers go beyond
establishing a common meeting place to developing new method and theory crafted to
transcend the disciplines in order to solve problems.

Interdisciplinary concept in Social Studies is used through this integration, teachers

expect students to understand the connections between the different subdisciplines and their
relationship to the real world.  For instance, in interdisciplinary approach, we are going to tackle
about geography of Antarctica, to incorporate other fields not just geography, the student can
research about the polar ecosystem or social habits of penguins to be able to incorporate the
subject Science. They might also learn about historical explorers who first came in contact with
Antarctica which is a part of its history. Combining these in the interdisciplinary approach
develops critical thinking skills of the students by encouraging them to see connections between
different areas of knowledge.
B.   How do you use the concept of multidisciplinary in the teaching of social studies in the
Philippines secondary level.

The concept of Multidisciplinary is what happens when members of two or more

disciplines cooperate, using the tools and knowledge of their disciplines in new ways to consider
multifaceted problems that have at least one tentacle in another area of study. In social studies
we can use this example on a lesson about the “ISRELI-PALESTINIAN CONFLICT”

The concept below is an example of a Multidisciplinary concept wherein when we tackle

on topic we are going in the different discipline or subject. It is impossible to discuss clearly the
topic without tackling the different disciplines. Using Multidisciplinary concept is integrating or
connecting the topic into other discipline to be able to teach the topic completely.
