ESSAY ON MICROCLIMATE
Microclimate is a set-up of climatic conditions wherein it is estimated in limited regions near by the
earth’s surface. The natural factors which incorporate by the temperature, light, wind speed and moisture
which is provides meaningful indicator for habitat selection and other ecological activities. Microclimate
emphasized as a good determinant for ecological patterns in plants and animals and other mortality of life
forms. furthermore, the cause of microclimate happens when the local’s differences by the measurement or the
amount of the heat or water trapped by the surface. It may vary from its environmental factors by getting more
energy. On the other hand, if the area is shaded by the vegetation, it may be a cooler because it does not
direct from the sun. Humidity also may differ by the water acquired it makes things damp or it maybe it has less
water so its drier. Additionally, the wind speed can contribute to microclimate by affecting the temperature and
humidity because it eliminates heat and water vapor.
furthermore, giving a narrow explanation on microclimate there are factors that affects the microclimate.
First is topography the formation or the shape of the land can affect the microclimate, when the earth rotation
interacts between the ocean and land, these will affect the topographical features also the slope. Refers to land
slope this will be the determinant on how much the solar radiation receives which can leads impacts on
temperature and shading. Additionally, the steeper the slope the wind moves fast to the uphill, this can affect
not only on vegetation on the windward side yet, on the leeward side as the wind falls on the opposite side
slope and causes a rain shadow effect. Second factors are the type of soil, its composition affects the
microclimate basically through how much water it holds or evaporates from it. A soil that has a large portion of
clay can hold more dampness than the other sand. The degree of the soil can affect the humidity and
temperature of the air above. Example of it when heavy rain, the soil can contain a ton of water and change
microclimates as a body of water such as a lake, aside from it the bare soil can produce a reflection, light, and
heat rather than the soil than covered by the grass and plants. Third is the water, the water that stored in the
ground is also important, the ponds and lakes and other water reservoir can help to moderate the climate
because it can affect the temperature of the area These impacts are because of the way that water gains and
loses heat more gradually than the land. These water elements add a humidity or moist into the air through
evaporation. This moisture can catch the heat from the sun, making the air around the water bodies warmer
than the areas than further away. Fourth on the list is the Vegetation, as we all know having a plants or good
vegetation in our surrounding can affect the temperature that we are living. Vegetations helps our area to
eliminates the heat from the sun. Also, it can help us to regulates the wind channel to be able to have a good
ventilation. lastly are the artificial structures, a good example of it is our house it has an impact on microclimate
by absorbing the heat during the day and releasing the heat during night by diverting the wind and making
shielded spots and reflecting the daylight. Additionally, large buildings create their own microclimate by
channeling the strong winds to the ground for this the factor of vegetation can has a role for regulates the wind.
In summary, Microclimate has a huge impact in our surrounding especially in consideration to our design
planning it can help us to maximize the winds and the vegetation of the site. Also, it can help the designer to
configurate the orientation of the site to be able to have a good site planning and air circulation of the area.
These factors interact with the natural microclimate to determine the comfort in built environment. lastly,
microclimate helps the users and the environment to interacts with each other without sacrificing the other
elements by using it correctly.
