INTRODUCTION

Work Immersion is one of the course requirements for

graduation. A Senior High School student has to undergo
Work Immersion in an industry that directly relates to
the student’s postsecondary goal. Through Work
Immersion, the students are exposed to and become
familiar with work-related environment related to their
field of specialization to enhance their competence.
Specifically, the students are able to: (i) gain relevant and
practical industrial skills under the guidance of industry
experts and workers; (ii) appreciate the importance and
application of the principles and theories taught in
school; (iii) enhance their technical knowledge and skills;
(iv) enrich their skills in communications and human
relations; and (v) develop good work habits, attitudes,
appreciation, and respect for work. These prepare them
to meet the needs and challenges of employment or
higher education after graduation. OBJECTIVES/
LEARNING AREA NO. OF
COMPANY BACKGROUND

Republic Act No. 9994, otherwise known as “An act to

maximize the contribution of Senior Citizens to nation
building, grant benefits and special privileges and for
other purposes”, states that the following functions of the
OSCA Office, to wit:
"(a) To plan, implement and monitor yearly work programs
in pursuance of the objectives of this Act;
"(b) To draw up a list of available and required services
which can be provided by the senior citizens;
"(c) To maintain and regularly update on a quarterly basis
the list of senior citizens and to issue national individual
identification cards, free of charge, which shall be valid
anywhere in the country;
"(d) To serve as a general information and liason center for
senior citizens;
"(e) To monitor compliance of the provisions of this Act
particularly the grant of special discounts and privileges to
senior citizens;
"(f) To report to the mayor, any individual, establishments,
business entity, institutions or agency found violating any
provision of this Act; and
"(g) To assist the senior citizens in filing complaints or
charges against any individual, establishments, business
entity, institution, or agency refusing to comply with the
privileges under this Act before the Department of
Justice (DOJ), the Provincial Prosecutor's Office, the regional
or the municipal trial court, the municipal trial court in
cities, or the municipal circuit trial court."
NATURE OF THE BUSINESS

One of the most significant changes that has taken place in

the social and demographic structure of the American
society is the tremendous growth of the senior citizen
population. The number of persons 65 years old and ever
has changed from 3 million at the turn of the century to 22.9
million in 1976 (U.S. Bureau of the Census, 1977). The
increase in the relative proportion of the older persons in
the population is even more striking. ThJ.H proportion has
increased from a mere 4% in 1900 to 10.7% in 1976. Earlier
projections indicating that the proportion of the older
persons to the total population will remain relatively
constant for the coming 25 years have been revised to
indicate that by 1990 the older citizens are likely to account
for 11.8% of the total population with their absolute number
increasing to about 33.8 million in 2050 (U.S. Bureau of the
Census, 1975).
With the change in its numbers, purchasing power and
demands for specific goods and services, the senior citizen
market is gaining more power and attention as a key
economic sector and market segment. Despite its size and
relative social, economic and marketing importance,
however, little is known about this sector. This article
focuses on three key areas: first, the relative share of the
senior citizen market as a percent of aggregate expenditures
for various key categories of goods and services; second, the
change in share of the senior citizen segment in numbers,
income, and expenditures for the period 1960 to 1973 ;' and,
finally, the important implications of these observed trends.

REFLECTION

This ten days of immersion is helpful and a meaningful

experience during Senior High School days. It is amazing
you can gain more knowledge, ideas, insight and
background in choosing what course you are going to
takein college.

This experience helps me on how to be a responsible, a

better person and a successful professional someday. The
lesson that I gained is how to be tough, have perseverance
in doing the activities that my teacher assigned. Even if
you feel tired and your neck was aching, you still need to
act that you are okay. However, it is still enjoyable
because you can talk with the pupils around you and you
can feel happy, can laugh about their doings and knowing
who their crushes are. Sometimes I need to be like them,
so that I can mingle with them. It is the best way to
communicate them and to know what they like. I am
happy that I learn on how to interact or socialize with the
work.
