Introduction
Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam sir was born on October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu, Dr. Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen
Abdul Kalam aeronautical Engineering specialist from Madras Institute of Technology. Rupa Publications released a
book on his speeches on his 85th birthday. Appropriately named ­ ‘Learning to Fly: Youth Life Lessons’, the book
includes 18 of his past lectures to students. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam strongly believed in the power of youth. He met
more than 21 million children and young people in India and abroad and spoke to them about the power of knowledge,
moral desire, moral values and the need to bring about change in society. He has visited almost every corner of the
world meeting young people in schools, universities and institutions and interviewing them as a dedicated teacher.
The body of the book
Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has traveled to almost every corner of the country meeting young people in schools, universities
and institutions and interacting with them as a committed teacher. In the book Learning How to Fly some of his nearly
2,000 lectures are covered. These talks were addressed to teachers and students in schools and elsewhere. In each of
them talked about preparing for the best in life, identifying and overcoming challenges and how to get the best out of
each person. Through stories from her life, those of her teachers and mentors and the stories of the world's greatest
men and women, and the latest advances in science and technology, she shows us the importance of dreams and the
hard work needed to turn those dreams into reality. Easy understanding of speeches with the help of the style of
storytelling and ideas spread along the way encourages readers to achieve more and as young people sitting in the
crowds hearing his speeches, we could hear his words running through our minds. This book stands very reliable in the
speeches and presentations made by Dr. Kalam.
