The submission is in the form of an individual written business report. This should be written in
a concise, formal business style using single spacing and font size 12. You are required to make
use of headings, paragraphs and subsections as appropriate, and all work must be supported with
research and referenced using the Harvard referencing system. Please also provide a bibliography
using the Harvard referencing system. The recommended word limit is 3,000–3,500 words,
although you will not be penalised for exceeding the total word limit.

Assignment Brief and Guidance

Scenario:

As a newly hired HR trainee into the Human Resource Department for a local organisation, you
have been assigned to prepare a written report to explain the purpose and scope of HRM in terms
of resourcing an organisation with talent and skills appropriate to fulfil business functions and to
evaluate the effectiveness of the key elements of HRM in an organisation.

Your report should cover the following:


1. An overview of the organisation of choice.
2. An explanation of the purpose and functions of HRM. Include an assessment of how the
functions of HRM can provide talent and skills appropriate to fulfil business objectives.
3. A critical evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches to recruitment
and selection. Support your evaluation with specific examples within the organisation of
your choice.
4. An explanation of the benefits of different HRM practices for both employer and employee.
5. A critical evaluation of the effectiveness of different HRM practices in terms or raising
organisational profit and productivity. Support your evaluation with a range of examples
within the organisation of your choice.
6. Appendix: Raw data, research data gathered and used to support your business report.
