Introduction

Every individual has their own ability and capabilities. Sometimes it is mistakenly assume that there are
persons who are just good for nothing. This wrong understanding to one persons behavior is just one of
the many factors in which bullying occurs. In a basic set up bullying is an event where there is a person
or a group who bullies and a victim whom is being bullied. Bullying has become one type of violence
that threatens a young person’s wellbeing both in schools and in the neighborhoods. It creates
effects that are felt by individuals, families, schools, and the society as whole and may result in
the young people feeling powerless, intimidated and humiliated by the aggressive deeds of fellow
mates. All of this actions caused by bullying creates a huge impact to a persons social development. The
way they talked, laugh, evaluate situations, perceive things and interact with others can be gretly
affected.

According to a research by Tonja and colleagues, bullying among school-aged youth is increasingly
being recognized as a noticeably huge problem affecting well-being and social functioning. While
a certain amount of conflict and harassment is typical of youth peer relations, bullying presents a
potentially more serious threat to healthy youth development. (Tonja et al. 2008, 2.) Although
many will think that this is just a children's play, bullying constitute a complex problem in school kids
lives. It is a problem that affects all students, either bullies or victims. It is well known that bullying is
difficult to eliminate or to stop it in schools because it is used by students. Bullying at school has
various impact, among such impact is the ability to socialize. Therefore the research problem is to
determine the impact of school bullying on students’ social development from a students point of
view.

I.A Significance of the research

The research importance stems from the importance of the topic it deals with, which is considered
very important for many parties. Moreover it will enable those concerned know how to deal with
the problem of bullying and its obvious consequences on school students social development. It
also enables the victims to know how to avoid being bullied.

I.B Review of Related Literature

Mehta et al. (2013) found that when students feel that bullying is a phenomenon in their school,
they feel that they are unsafe which reflected on less engaged in school community. Therefore they
have less motivation to do well at school and they do not participate in school activities. Bullying
affects students social development in various ways.

Being bullied can also alter the way in which others relate to you. Many people do not realize this, but in
their everyday interactions, their mind is regularly changing the way we experience one another in the
process. If we have a negative impression about someone set up in our head, it shifts the way we
experience that person: An accident is more likely to be seen as an insult.. Imagine being that bullied
child, when everything you say or do is misunderstood. You should start to see why bullying can impact
to a child's social development. Research shows that later in life, those bullied as kids “often had
difficulty making friends with (others) and were wary of people in their own and older age groups, a
correlative with the relative ages of their bullies to them.” (Kidscape, 1999, p. 4) The same study found
that difficulty in establishing and making friends was a common outcome: Of those that were bullied in
their youth, nearly three-quarters of respondents (73%) reported they had problems in the realm of
friendships and social connections. This compares to a mere 11% of the adults who were not
significantly bullied as children. (ibid, p. 9)

II. Findings

Individuals who both bully and are also bullied by others experience a greater variety of both
internalizing and externalizing symptoms than those who only bully or are only bullied.: Moreover,
individuals who bully others are likely to experience negative emotional, behavioral, and mental health
outcomes, though most research has not distinguished perpetration of bullying from other forms of
peer aggression.

III. Conclusions and Recommendations

The research concluded that bullying exists an almost every school either governmental or private one
but with different levels. The search found that school bullying affect social development either for the
victims who suffer from these phenomena and in the same time it affects the bullies themselves. The
research suggested that teachers and the school management have to take different measures for the
purpose of reducing the bullying volume. Moreover teachers should coordinate with bully’s students.
Teachers and school management have to set some programs for bullies to mitigate the school
bullying.
