FABRIC SCIENCE AND

ANALYSIS
AIR JET LOOMS

Presentation By: Payal Gupta

INTRODUCTION
Air jet weaving is done on an air jet loom,
which propels yarn called “Weft" by using a
jet of air. Weft yarn fills in the lengthwise
pattern set down first by the “Warp" yarn.

 Shuttle less Weaving Machines

are generally of wider widths
enabling the simultaneous
weaving of two or more
widths; up to 400/420 cms.
in the case of Air Jet.
SHUTTLELESS LOOM AIR JET (I)

 Jet looms take the weft yarn across the loom by using a high speed of either air
or water

 The force of air or water carriers the yarn from one side to the other.

 Jet looms are faster than projectile or rapier looms (picks per minute).
 Multiple Air nozzles are used to insert the weft yarn into the shed
SHUTTLELESS LOOM AIR JET (II)
 With the air-jet looms, the initial propulsion force is provided by a main
nozzle.
 Relay nozzles (auxiliary nozzles) along the shed produce additional booster
jets to help carry the yarns across the loom.
 The fabric width of air-jet loom is normally narrower than rapier or
projectile loom

ADVANTAGES
 High productivity.
 Low initial outlay.
 Multicolor weft insertion up to 6 colors.
 Unusual electronic features like:
 Bidirectional communication with host computer.
 Automatic pick repairing.
Automatic controls on weft insertion timings.

More reliability.

Minimum maintenance.

Less spare parts reqiured.

DISADVANTAGES

 Power consumption due to compressed air.
