“The chaos, the cruelty and all these problems we now discovered in this lab shows
that it’s horrible for the animals, and it’s not safe for the humans.”

For years, a (3) nondescript building in Hamburg has been the target of animal
rights activists. It’s one of Germany’s most secretive animal testing labs and
performs (2) toxicology tests on a contract basis for (1) pharmaceutical
companies. We talked to Friedrich Mülln, who ran an operation to get someone on
the inside. The viewer may find some of the following footage disturbing.

“The only way to get footage from animal testing laboratories is to go undercover. It’s
very difficult and they are (4) highly paranoid, but we found the right person to get
this person in there. Of course we are using state-of-the-art hidden camera
technology, you have to be very careful because they are looking for stuff like this.

I worked in an animal testing laboratory undercover 16 years ago so I know what’s

going on, but when I saw this footage, I was so shocked because nothing has
changed in 16 years. The same cages, the same poor conditions, and no (5)
enrichment at all.

Most stuff you see in this footage is (8) perfectly legal cruelty of animal testing. If
we look at the primate keeping, primates are wild animals; to keep wild animals in (6)
battery cages just like chicken is just unbelievable, but it’s legal. To put a pipe into
the stomach, and to force them, like (7) force feeding - this is legal. And even
poisoning dogs is legal.

We found several law breaches, beginning from cruelty to the animals like very
rough handling, even a (9) sadistic worker who smashed the head of a monkey
against a door frame, very very small cages, and a dog experiment where dogs bled
heavily and died on the bare floor of these enclosures where they were held.

These tests are so unreliable, so bad science; you can just leave them away, you
don’t need them. This is an industry that is addicted to this bad practice to earn
money, for example, (10) contract research organisations like the LPT.
