fication of the issues related to the rights and respect of
information—intellectual property (IP) rights. Intellectu-
al property refers to thoughts and ideas (“creations of the
mind that have value”) that are treated by law as if they
were tangible objects.
This is a major concern for many reasons. On one ex-
treme, a violation of intellectual property rights can lead
to civil or criminal consequences. On another, as individu-
