A confined space is an area that is large enough for an adult to enter and perform work. Discussion Date:
These areas are not intended for continuous human occupancy and have limited or
restricted means of entry and exit. Some examples are tanks, silos, pits, manholes, Employee Participants:
tunnels, crawlspaces, ductwork, pipelines and equipment housings.

Go through the following steps before entering a permit-required confined space:

1. Complete any necessary training

2. Test for oxygen levels, then test for other hazardous atmospheres

3. Review entry procedures and other information on the permit

4. Gather and/or assemble continuous air monitoring, fall protection, rescue, lighting and
communication equipment that will be needed

5. Notify supervisor of entry
