According to Mr. Norman Sabido, there are many challenges as a teacher. Many to mention, yet what
I am focusing is on the solution not just for me but for my students as well. I have to embrace the new
normal and keep learning new things specially in technology and new trends of teaching.

Jayzerth Martinez
Teacher
Our Lady of the Pillar College - SMI

In my 7 years of teaching, I have experienced a lot of things, and somehow, few of them were literally
beyond my role as a teacher:
1. I was challenged by an instance where one of my elementary pupils doesn't know how to recognize
numbers and even letter including its sounds to the fact that he's already in grade 2. He never showed long
span of interest in class, maybe because his mental health background. I thought it's easy, because i was not
the only one experiencing it but as time goes by, the child seemed to be not interested at all. So we put
some program as a remedy to help him from the basic one to more complex situations. We(with my co
teachers) spent hour in a day just to teach him letters and numbers. His routine lasts for a couple of weeks
and months. When he enters grade 3, there were already improvements and that give us the courage to give
him more focus.
2. In my 5th year of teaching, i had this student who is really different from his classmates. He's the "easy-
go-lucky" but in a reciprocated way. Most of the time, he's always mentally absent, he's sleeping inside the
room, and seemed no care what is happening inside. It bothered me and i have to research his background
to know my whys and hows. The situation gets worse. He's not entering the class for a couple of weeks. He
does not want to ho to school anymore. I went to their house, talk to his guardian, but his guardian told me
that she's also giving up on him, crying all throughout our conversation. Somehow, some of my whys and
hows were answered. I also experienced to sleep at their house to motivate him and talk to him,
unfortunately he just went out from the house at the middle of the night where i was in my deep sleep. I
also experienced roaming around at night just to see and know where did he go, when technically that is not
my job description. I exerted more effort to help him.It was really a nightmare being a teacher to
experience those which are beyond your job description. His parents and guardian just decided to put him
in an exclusive mental medication to maybe suffice his needs first.
