Mission

The mission describes the day-to-day work that, if the organization keeps doing it and

doing it well, will eventually make the vision become a reality. Like the vision statement,

a mission statement needs to be short. A sentence or two can easily sum up the value

Provided by the organization, and can be communicated to someone quickly and easily.

If needed, the mission statement may also be clarified by a short, descriptive paragraph.

A mission is always supported by one or more goals.

Vision

An organization’s vision is what it wants to be known for at some point in the future

5-10+ years). Visions do not need to be long documents. They just need to be a simple

Statement that describes the future. It only takes one sentence to do it, and if you would

Like to add a brief paragraph to explain or support the vision statement, that is fine; but it

has to be short and to the point. Do not write a ‘novel’ that nobody is going to take the

time to read or attempt to understand.

Objectives

Objectives are the smaller steps, activities and milestones that must be completed in

Order to achieve a goal. This is where the day-to-day tasks, services, and projects fall in

The overall scheme of things. Just as goals are the smaller supporting elements that

Lead to the accomplishment of the mission, the objectives is the smaller supporting

Elements that lead to the accomplishment of the goals. The SMART acronym can be

Applied to objectives.

For example, a goal might be to increase the customer service skills of customer-facing

Employees within the organization. To make that happen, the objectives of starting a

Project to develop a service training program, hiring employee development specialists,

And the actual teaching of classes would support accomplishing the larger goal
