Session 1: Lawlessness and Deception (Chs. 3-4)
REVIEW:
 Undercover means to be under a covering and protection
 There are two kinds of Authority: Divine and Delegated
 Disobeying God’s authority and those whom he delegated
removes God’s protection in our lives.
1...2...3... SIN. What comes first to your mind?
When we think of sin, we imagine, sexual immorality, murder,
robbery, stealing, and so on. But sin is deeper than that.
The Bible declares, “Sin is Lawlessness” The Greek word for
“lawlessness” is anomia which means the conditions of being without
law because of ignorance or violation of it. In essence, sin means to
ignore and reject God’s law or will, and the preference of our will
over God’s.
You don’t have to kill or steal to commit sin, just by resisting God’s
will and plan for your life, you are already sinning, considered a
rebellious person.
THE PARABLE OF THE BANQUET (Luke 14:15-24)
A certain man (representing God) prepared a banquet and invited
many guests (the believers), so he sent his servant (Jesus) to call them
for the banquet. However this guests, represented by three people,
rejected the invitation, each having their own excuses:
PERSON 1: “I have just bought a field, I cannot come” nothing is
wrong with having a house, but if we prefer material things over God,
we are rebelling.
PERSON 2: “I have just bought five oxen, I will test them”
“Testing oxen or any equipments for business is not sin, but we
love business, career, work and study over God, we are
rebelling.
PERSON 3: “I just got married, I cant come” Is marrying a sin?
Definitely no, but if we choose to please relationship over God’s
will, we are sinning and rebelling against God.
Sin happens when love ourselves, materials things, and other
relationship more than we love God.
DECIEVED CHRISTIANS
What happens when we disobey God’s will? We are being
deceived.
James 1:22 ERV
Do what God’s teaching says: don’t just listen and do nothing.
When you only sit and listen, you are fooling yourselves.
We are just deceiving ourselves when we hear God’s word but
we do not obey it. We must not merely hear God’s words, but
also obey it.
Matthew 7:21-23

Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord’ will enter the
kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my
Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day,
‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your
name perform many miracles? 23Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never
knew you. Away from me, you evildoers.!’

Notice how these people emphasize their supposed relationship with

God: They call him Lord; these people really believe that they have a
relationship with Jesus simply because they prophesied and performed
many miracles. They think they will go to heaven, but they’re heading
to hell. It is possible for a Christian to be able to preach, prophesy, and
perform many miracles and yet, still going to hell.

How can a young person stay on the path of purity?

By living according to your word.

I seek you with all my heart;
do not let me stray from your commands.

I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.

We discussed that deceived Christians are people who know the word
but do not live by it. Knowing the Word of God in the Bible is not
enough. We must obey it. Verse eleven says: “I have hidden your
word in my heart” The word hidden there literally means to treasure;
It implies that as Christians we so treasure the word of God in our
eyes that we carefully and wholeheartedly obey it. That’s how you get
out of deception: OBEDIENCE!
