SKIP COUNTING

TASK: The student will sequence numbers by skip counting.

MATERIALS:

 A shoebox pieces of loop-Velcro in a row on top

 Small squares of cardstock with pre-printed numbers (or you can use calendar shapes as
pictured) with hook-Velcro on the back
 A container to hold the loose cards

TARGETED SKILLS:

 Number sense
 Number recognition
 Sequencing
 Counting by 5

IDEAS FOR DIFFERENTIATION:

To have students practice skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s all on the same box, simply use different
shapes and create three rows of Velcro on the box. Program one shape with multiples of 2, a different
shape with multiples of 5, and still another shape with multiples of 10. You could use different color
cards if shapes are not available. Be sure to place the first number of each sequence on the box to serve
as a model since there will be so many manipulatives to work with.
