MATERIALS:
Cards with pictures and words (sets of word-picture cards can be purchased at many teacher
stores or you can make your own)
A container to hold the loose cards
Clothespins preprogrammed with the individual letters needed to spell the words on the cards
A shoebox or other long, upright surface to attach the clothespins for easy viewing by students
A container in which to place the completed cards with clothespin attached
TARGET SKILLS:
Spelling
Letter recognition and matching
Beginning sight-word exposure
Fine motor skills required to operate clothespin
For students who can spell from memory, use the same idea but omit the written word on the card.
Students can use the clothespins to spell the word pictures on the card without the matching prompt.
