COPYING BLOCK PATTERNS

GOAL : To improve the ability to perceive differences in designs and imitate the use of materials
to copy the designs
MATERIALS: 10 blocks
Procedure:
 Sit with the child at the table
 Keep five blocks in front of the child and keep the other five blocks for
yourself
 Establish attending skills by calling his name and saying “look”.
 Arrange your block in a clearly distinguishable pattern.
 Make sure he is watching as you arrange the blocks
 Redirect his attention to the completed pattern
 Point to his block and say “ do this” or “copy this”
 At first you will need to guide his hands to arrange the blocks properly.
 Repeat the procedure with three different patterns each session.
