1. Overview
Yield measurement business-important area of focus across multiple industry segments. In the age of
rising costs, increased competitive pressures, optimal use of resources has become even more important
in the manufacturing processes. Monitoring and improving yield has therefore become subject of intense
scrutiny. The new solution YMM (Yield Management) is developed to calculate the yield at every stage of
manufacturing process.
.
Author used the generic items and they are not specific to any industry to explain the feature,
Customers / Internal resources can create the Items / Formulas / Recipes of your own to understand
the feature
Author assumes that the business users are having good understanding of the Oracle Process
Manufacturing applications.

2. Changes in forms as part of Yield measurement in Product Development
A) Process Operations window
Yield would defaults to 100.00000% and user can’t enter / override to more than 100.00000%. You
cannot edit the Yield% after the status is changed to Approved for General Use.
C) Recipe window
Yield at Header: Displays the yield calculated as the ratio of the total output to the total input.
Yield at Step Quantity Tab: The yield is derived from the yield defined in the Routing definition, and can
be overridden. Yield cannot be changed after the status is changed to Approved for General Use
Page 5 of 73
3. Changes in forms as part of Yield measurement in Process Execution
A) Create Batch / Firm Planned Order window
This field would be used generally in a steel manufacturing industry. A Heat Number is an identifying
number assigned to the product at the time of melting in an electric arc furnace.
For more details please refer the Oracle Process Manufacturing Process Execution user guide.
New field “Step“is added on the header, this can be used to associate or to modify the material
association for batch steps. If no material association is done at Recipe or in the Material transactions
window, all the ingredients consumption would be recorded in step 10.
Step field default displays the step that the material is associated with in a Recipe
Page 8 of 73
E) Batch Yield (available at Folder Tools)
Added the new field “Batch Yield” in Folder fields which would help to see the Batch Yield after the
progression of the batch ( Author created the Folder “Batch Yield” to show the field in batch Details
window)
4. Oracle MES for Process Manufacturing –Master and Control Batch Record
Support
A) Master Batch Record
Master batch record is now enhanced to display yield percentages defined in recipe
Control batch record display the heat and yield information of the batch
Page 10 of 73
5. Concurrent Program -Process Manufacturing Yield Calculation
The Process Manufacturing Yield Calculation concurrent program allows you to calculate yield related
information for all the steps in a completed batch. This program is useful if there are any modifications or
corrections to the step transfer quantities after the step or batch is complete, if there are any material
transactions entered after step or batch is complete, if the parent batch is completed after the completion
of a child batch etc. Running the concurrent program before closing the batch gives the final picture of the
yield.
6. Definitions of the different expressions that was used
a) Yield: The Quantity of output coming out of a process divided by the quantity going into that process
over a specified period of time
b) Heat: The process of melting large amount of primary metal (alloys) initially – referred to as a Heat,
generally would be used in steel manufacturing industry
c) Heat Number: A heat number is an identification coupon number that is stamped on a material plate
after it is removed from the ladle and rolled at a steel mill, generally would be used in steel
manufacturing industry
d) Intermediate Quantity: The work in process material that comes out of processing the input material
in an operation, this is not identified in inventory
e) Operation Input Quantity: Operation Input quantity consists of the input raw material or ingredients
added to the step and the intermediate quantity that is transferred from the previous step (s)
f) Intermediate Out Quantity: Operation Output quantity consists of the output products or by products
yielded from the step and the intermediate quantity that is transferred to the next step(s)
g) Transfer Quantity: The transfer quantity is the intermediate quantity that is transferred from step to
step.
h) Transfer Percentage: The percentage of material that goes to the dependent step after all products
and byproducts are yielded
7. Calculate the Actual, Actual Cumulate yield, Yield loss for an Operation / Step
and Batch Yield
In manufacturing raw material undergoes conversion into finished product there are some operations
i.e. steps in the routing that are quite critical for quality and material processing. These are monitored
quite closely from multiple perspectives including loss of material or “Yield”. Users need to be able to
calculate the yield at such individual operations

Step 30
a)Actual Yield (Step Yield) = Output coming out of the step / Input to the step
(Step Cumulative input =Sum (Input to the current step from previous step / Previous step cumulative
yield)) + External inputs to the current step)
From step 10
From Step 20
So as per formula
From step 10 = 20 and from step 20 =115. Total 20.00000 +115.000000 =135.00000
Page 63 of 73
Step 40
a) Actual Yield (Step Yield) = Output coming out of the step / Input to the step
(Step Cumulative input =Sum (Input to the current step from previous step / Previous step cumulative

As per Recipe this is 95.0000 %, so planned step yield for batch step 30 is = 95.00000%
Plan Cum Yield (Planned Step Cum yield) =Step Plan Cum Out put / Setp Cum Input
Step Plan Cum Out put =SUM(Actual input to the current step * (Previous step plan cum yield / Previous
step Actual Cum yield )) + External Input ) * Current step plan yield
Step Cum Input =SUM ( Input to the current step from Previous step / Previous Step Cum Yield ) +
External Inputs coming to the step
Step 40: Material out and Planned step yield and Planned Step Cum yield calculations

Planned Yield (planned step yield)
Plan yield value defined as per step (Coming from recipe for that operation)
As per Recipe this is 95.0000 %, so planned step yield for batch step 40 is = 90.00000%
Plan Cum Yield (Planned Step Cum yield) =Step Plan Cum Out put / Setp Cum Input
Step Plan Cum Out put =SUM(Actual input to the current step * (Previous step plan cum yield / Previous
step Actual Cum yield )) + External Input ) * Current step plan yield
Step Cum Input =SUM ( Input to the current step from Previous step / Previous Step Cum Yield ) +
External Inputs coming to the step
