Middle America:
Concept of banana wars:

In the late 19th and early 20th century, the US would do a series of interventions and

occupations of several countries in Central America and the Caribbean. There the locals will not

take coming to US occupation and therefore fight the Americans this will be known as the

banana wars. A series of conflicts and Latin America and the Caribbean that was showed that the

US has always been a kind of nation that sprays influence around the world militarily speaking

but also economic.

In 1898 the US go to war with Spain supporting Cuba and Spain lose the war and give up

the Puerto Rico, Guam and the Philippines to the US. The US gain the influence over Cuba and

become a puppet of the US. The main export from Cuba was sugar. They took the opportunity to

buy out many sugar crops and export US. Some rebellions rise up against Cuban government

after poor mistreatment to of Afro Cubans. This is the beginning of the banana wars.

American fruit businesses have intersts in these countries panama, Dominican republic

Haiti, Nicaragua and even mexico and asked US government to support in order to stop these

upsprings in thses countries. American involvement and panama goes all the way back as far as

1856 with intervening during the watermelon war.

The Dominican president made agreement with US to lock the US marines to leave the

island. The central American country of Nicaragua go through a similar process with the US

occupying a nation. Honduras would actually be a puppet for American fruit companies. They

exploit the Honduras workers and export the main fruit banana towards US. These conflicts

ended with the withdrawl of troops from Haiti in 1934 under president Franklin D.Roosevelt.

“Drug Cartels” in Middle America

Purpose

Existence

Its role today in politics and the influence over the development of the region

Colombia, Mexico, and Brazil are considered to be the organized crime hubs for the region, the northen triangle

of Central America constitute "emerging powers." Central America is a strategic corridor for trafficking drugs

into the United States as well as a source of legal exports to the U.S. market. The illegal markets in Guatemala,

El Salvador, and Honduras run parallel to the legal market. However, high levels of violence, police corruption,

impunity, and the infiltration of state institutions by organized crime have increasingly fostered connections

between the illegal and legal worlds.

US Migrant Crisis, how did this happen and US response to the migrant crisis

What will eventually happen with the migrant crisis situation

Today, the countries sending the most migrants to the U.S.-Mexico border–especially the

Central American countries of Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador–are experiencing a

combination of push factors that include poverty and inequality, political instability, and

violence.

In 2017, Mexico tallied its highest number of murders, homicides rates in southern

states are rising not only cocaine but also violence if fueled. The proliferation of cartels

and gangs has intensified turf battles over protection rackets. The criminal organizations

ready to kidnap, physically and sexually abuse, or kill them. Central Americans continue

to flee from poverty and violence at home and it causes illegal immigrants from Mexico

to the US.

Competitive advantage on the global stage:

The major income are the agriculture and tourism eventhough industrial sector is in

strong growth, mainly in panama. The central america is economically connected to

reigons around the globe through a variety of free trad eagreemnts. Currently, the central

ameerican bloc is based on a bilateral free trade agreement with US known as CAFTA-

DR.Costa Rica, the innovation hub for technology, is experiencing a huge boom in the service
industry.Latin America as a whole has seen the strengthening of traditionally dominant sectors such as the

Mexican automotive industry, to new sectors. Another exciting and developing country is Nicaragua who

also has a young and educated workforce. Many foreign companies have found that doing business in

Nicaragua strengths their global competitive advantage by reducing human capital costs while maintaining

high-quality control

In your own words “Assuming you are the leader of El Salvador” what would you do differently

to gain a better global economic foothold and mitigate the current “Economic and Border

Crisis”. (Notes: additional emphasis should be placed on US – Mexico -Canada relations

El Salvador has one of the highest crime rates in Latin America. Violence between

gangs is common and targets are usually rival gang members or the military and police.

high unemployment and generally low wages, and comparatively high housing costs. Some of these

factors push families in lower economic status into marginal housing zones.
Crime and violence also threaten social development and economic growth in El Salvador

and are among the main factors driving Salvadorians to migrate.

If I become the leader of ei slavadar support the expansion of the trade sector to achieve

stronger and more inclusive growth.Development goals could be achieved with a long-term

commitment to structural reform, quality job creation and investment in human capital.
