Article 1 – The purpose of the contest is the composition of 3 short unpublished pieces for
Duos (violin and piano, viola and piano, cello and piano), each of which cannot exceed 7
minutes. Each composer has to send 3 pieces for the 3 ensembles mentioned above (one for
each ensemble). The compositions may be similar from a stylistic and/or artistic point of view, but
they have to be divisible, as they are to be performed separately. Therefore, a similar level of
difficulty is required. The winner compositions will be included in the program of the 2015 “Premio
Trio di Trieste” Competition, and therefore performed by the participants to that contest.
The composition for the piano should not imply alterations or adjustments on the instrument that
may affect the tuning of the piano itself.
Submitted scores must not have been published nor performed in a public concert, and they cannot
have been used or posted on websites, social networks or other mass media before the Award
Ceremony that will take place on Friday, October 31st 2014.
Article 2 – The Competition will take place in Trieste from October 29th to October 31st, 2014. It
is open to composers of all nationalities under the age of 40 as on December 31st 2014.
To apply, participants must post to the Competition Secretary Office in Trieste not later than
September 30th, 2014 (deadline) the following papers:
- 2 (two) copies of the scores, printed or handwritten, free of names or marks that allow in
any way the identification of the author. Each copy must be marked with a motto or a
pseudonym and the approximate duration of the piece. MIDI version is accepted.
- A sealed envelope, marked with the same motto / pseudonym used for the scores, which has
to contain:
1. Application form, filled and signed in each of its parts with full name, address,
phone number, fax, e-mail and the author’s declaration form;
4. Copy of the bank transfer receipt as proof of payment of the application fee;
To be eligible, participants have to abide by the terms mentioned above. Failure to do so may result
in disqualification. Each paper must be written in one of the official languages of the Competition
(Italian or English) and in capital letters.
Article 3 – The application fee is €50 (fifty Euros) to be paid by bank transfer to:
Please note that application fees are non-refundable. Associazione Chamber Music does not account
or have any liability for any participants' bank fees or charges, which must be paid by the
participants.
Article 4 – The International Jury, composed of 5 (five) members, will meet in Trieste and select
the winner after 3 preliminary rounds. Finalists will be no more than 3.
In case an individual member of the jury is prevented for any reason, he / she may be replaced by
another suitable person at short notice.
Upon taking office, any juror having or having had a familial or private teaching relationship with a
participant during the two years preceding the competition must disclose such relationship, and
shall be dismissed. In case of public teaching relationships during the two years preceding the
competition, the juror must declare such relationship and shall abstain from voting on that
participant’s performance. (Official Gazette of the Italian Republic No.10, 5 December 1994, art.
15/2 c). Voting procedures will be outlined to participants prior to the contest. Composers will be
notified of the voting results after each round.
The jury reserves the right not to award the prizes, in case the quality of the participants’
compositions do not warrant a prize/award. Please note that the decision of the jury is final.
Second Prize - offered by Monika Coral Verzar: €2,000 (two thousand Euros).
Should the First Price not be awarded, the Jury may grant the First Prize benefits to the Second
Prize winner.
Article 6 – The award-winning composition (First Prize) will be performed for the first time in
public in September 2015 by the participants to the XVI International Competition “Premio
Trio di Trieste”, during the Second Round of the Contest and at the Winners’ Concert. It will
also be executed during the 2015 “Premio Trio di Trieste” Winners’ Tour in at least 7 different
venues. This will give the composer great visibility among musicians, Music School teachers and
specialized magazines in Italy and abroad.
Moreover, the award-winning pieces will be included in the following Festival programs (still
to be defined):
Article 7 – Should the Jurors not award any participant, they may point out the compositions apt to
be performed during the 2015 “Premio Trio di Trieste” Competition.
Article 8 – Submitted materials may be returned at the participant’s expenses. A copy of the
finalists’ scores will be kept in the Library of the Music School “G. Tartini” in Trieste. Unsolicited
scores will not be available after November 30th, 2014.
Article 9 – By signing the Composition Competition Application Form, the participant
unconditionally agrees and accepts all the rules and regulations in effect as of the submission date.
Article 10 – In the event of disagreement or difference in opinion concerning the rules, the only
valid text will be the original text in Italian, made of 10 (ten) articles. Any dispute or controversy
arising from the competition will be settled by the Court of Trieste.
