Daffodowndillies Six-Inch Square

Daffodowndillies is an old-fashioned word for my

favorite harbinger of spring. If you’re not familiar with
this old word, it’s daffodils. I’m not sure if daffodils are
lilies or not, but they seem to be closely related. I like to
think of them as the lilies of the field that Jesus is
speaking of in Matthew 6 beginning with verse 28:

28 So why do you worry about clothing? Consider

the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil
nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon
in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30
Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the
oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

31 Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What
shall we wear?' 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father
knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His
righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about
tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own
trouble.

I hope these words of Jesus encourage you, and that you enjoy making Daffodowndillies.

Special Stitch Instructions

Daffodowndillies or Daffodils to You

This block uses two special stitches—the crossed double

crochet (Xdc) and the V-stitch (V-st). Treble (tr) and double treble (dtr) crochet stitches are also
used.

Crossed Double Crochet

To make a crossed double crochet (Xdc) stitch, yo the yarn the same as for a double crochet
stitch, skip the next stitch and insert the hook in the next one. Work a double crochet stitch. Yo
again, and going behind the stitch you just made, insert the hook from front to back in the stitch
you skipped, and work a double crochet.

Treble

To make a treble stitch, yo two times (three loops on hook). Insert hook into stitch, yo and pull
up loop (four loops on hook). Yo and work two loops off (three loops on hook), yo and work two
loops (two loops on hook). Yo and work last two loops on hook.

Double Treble

This stitch is worked the same as the treble stitch, except yo three times (four loops on hook),
insert hook in stitch and pull up loop (five stitches on hook). Work loops off hook two at a time
until one loop is left on hook.

V-Stitch

To make a V-stitch (V-st), double crochet in the designated stitch, ch 1, and make a second
double crochet in the same stitch. To make the next V-stitch, skip two stitches and (dc, ch 1, dc)
in the next stitch.
