o main/internal memory (including ROM and RAM),

o input devices,

o output devices,

5. identify operating systems, including:

o graphic user interface (GUI),

o command-line interface

6. identify different types of computers and giving advantages and


disadvantages including:

o personal computer (PC) or desktop

o mainframe

o laptop

o palmtop

o Personal digital assistant (PDA).


1. Hardware is the physical components of a computer e.g. CPU, Motherboard,
Mouse etc.
2. Software is the instructions that control what a computer can do e.g. Excel,
Windows, MS Word etc.
3. Computer hardware is the physical components that make up the computer
system. Hardware is useless without software to run on it. Software is
instructions that tell computer hardware what to do. Software is useless unless
there is hardware to run it on.
4. CPU, Motherboard, RAM, ROM, Keyboard, Mouse/Mouse Pad, Sound card,
Microphone, Network card, operating systems, and system software.
5. GUI: Windows, Icons, Menus and Pointers
