Florida Project" (2016). There are some places to do that here. You also
should take note that the questions on this assignment based on "The Florida
Project" can only be answered live in class on Monday, 7/26 if you want
credit for them. Scroll down to Q19.

Surface topics in "The Florida Project" (2017)

First of all let's think about some of the topics that have been raised to
the surface since we started studying what I call the Indiana school of
sociology, which came up way back on A07, located here, and, of course,
sociologists who are functionalists, see questions directly above.

 The average American

 The average American's
o Church going behavior, religious beliefs
o Sexual behavior
o Family life
o Gender identity
o Isolation, alienation
 The overall "health" of society or a society, i.e., whether it is
functioning (i.e., working well) or not

Now, let's think about how these topics come up in "The Florida Project"
(2017), assigned at the top of this assignment and archived for you here.

19. Do you think the new owner of the Arabian Motel in Kissimmee, Florida is a
Patel? Backup your answer with what you know about anyone named Patel living
in the United States in the 2000s, [see Meet The Patels (2014) archived on
A09], and be sure to explain and defend your response.

20. Why might Clifford Shaw, one of the sociologists who was a part of the
1930s Chicago school of sociology under Robert Park, be interested in Hayley?
Back your answer up with evidence from The Florida Project (2017) and be sure
to explain and defend your response. Clifford Shaw came up in this reading,
which was first assigned here. Here is a link to a quick summary of his book
The Jackroller (1930) if you need it.

21. Explain why you think it is difficult for Hayley to live like an average
American. You can use this list to refresh your memory about who the average
American was in the year 2008, first assigned on the midterm exam, located
here. Hayley's story is set about nine years after this list, but it will
still work okay for this question. In order to get credit for your answer you
must specifically reference a scene or a character or a piece of dialogue from
The Florida Project (2017) and be sure to explain and defend your response.

22. What do you think would be Hayley's take on organized religion? In order
to get credit for your answer you must specifically reference a scene or a
character or a piece of dialogue from The Florida Project (2017) and be sure
to explain and defend your response.

23. What do you think Alfred C. Kinsey would think about Hayley's sexuality?
Back your answer up with evidence from The Florida Project (2017) and be sure
to explain and defend your response. Alfred C. Kinsey came up in this reading,
which was first assigned here.

24. Are any of the three families featured in The Florida Project (2017)
*modern nuclear families* as Talcott Parsons would define it? Back your answer
up with evidence from The Florida Project (2017) and be sure to explain and
defend your response. If you scroll up you can find source material on Parsons
so you get the definition of *modern nuclear family* correct ;)

 Family 1 - Hayley and Moonee

 Family 2 - Ashley and Scootie
 Family 3 - Grandma Stacey and Jancey

25. Name and describe a time in The Florida Project (2017) when Hayley thinks
she is reaching her emotional breaking point. In order to get credit for your
answer you must specifically reference a set of scenes or a character or a
piece of dialogue from The Florida Project (2017) to back up your answer and
be sure to explain and defend your response.

26. According to Durkheim's Suicide (1897) is Hayley at risk for committing

suicide? In order to get credit for your answer you must specifically
reference a scene or a character or a piece of dialogue from The Florida
Project (2017) to back up your answer, as well as the source on Durkheim's
Suicide (1897) posted directly below and first assigned above. Be sure to
explain and defend your response.
