ANNUAL PHYSICAL EXAM

An annual physical exam is preventive in nature. It allows for the


prevention of avoidable health conditions. For already known
diseases, proper treatment and monitoring ensures that further
complications are avoided so that you can lead a longer, healthier
life.

APE PREPARATIONS

- Fasting is not a requirement

- Sleep early and rest well

- Stool sample shall be collected within 1 to 2 hours prior submission

- Urine sample shall be collected 15 minutes prior submission

- If you are 35 years old & above; please remove any jewelries, watch or any metal
accessories prior to Electrocardiogram (ECG).

- If you are a female 35 years of age and above,


you are eligible for pap smear.

- Stool and X-Ray is mandatory

• History Taking
– Past medical, family, personal and social

• BMI Analysis
– Recommendation done by the Doctor based on patient’s height , weight and age
evaluation.
e.g. obese, overweight, normal or underweight

• Breast Examination (for women)


– Done 7 days before or 7 days after menstruation (optional)
– Physical examination of the breast is a screening procedure for breast mass.
Useful as an early detection of breast cancer.

• Digital Rectal Examination


– For male 40 y/o and above (optional)

• Rectal Viewing
– For all (optional)
– The significance of rectal examination is probable detection of
Hemorrhoids, Rectal Cancer, and Prostate Cancer.

• Visual Acuity Test

– Uses Snellen Chart to rule out Errors of Refraction

– A Visual acuity of 20/20 is frequently described that a person can see detail from
20 feet away the same as a person with normal eyesight would see from 20 feet.
If a person has a visual acuity of 20/40, he/she is said to see detail from 20 feet
away the same as a person with normal eyesight would see it from 40 feet away.

- Complete Blood Count Test (CBC) – Mandatory

- Is the calculation of the cellular (formed elements) of blood.

- Determined by special machines that analyze the different


components of blood in less than a minute.

- Urinalysis – Mandatory

- The main significance of urinalysis is to be able to determine if


the patient has current urinary tract infection. Early detection of
UTI prevents possible stone formation from symptoms if treated
earlier.

- Diagnose abnormalities in the urinary tract - kidney, ureter,


bladder

- Specimen Requirements: At least 5 ml freshly void midstream


urine in a clean wide mouth container (stool cups)

• Stool Exam – Mandatory

– Detects parasitism, bacterial

• Chest X-Ray – Mandatory

– A radiology test that involves exposing the chest briefly to radiation to


produce an image of the chest & its internal organs. The exam can be
used to define abnormalities such as PTB, hydrothorax, pneumonia,
bronchitis , asthma, cysts, cancers.

– Female patients should be checked first by the Doctor prior to x-ray

• Electrocardiogram (ECG) FOR PAP SMEAR

FAQ’s

• Who are eligible to undergo the APE?


– Employees who were hired from 2010 to November 30, 2019.

• Could I just bring my dependent with me during the on-site APE instead of the
chosen accredited clinics?
– No, there are accredited clinics for your dependents in different sites near
your residence.

• If I am pregnant, am I required to undergo the APE?


– If employee’s Maternity Leave meets the APE Covered Dates, no need to
undergo APE. Just provide fit to work upon return.
– For suspected pregnancy, our provider needs any proof of document or they
encourage you to do the pregnancy test review by our MC Lab medical staff.

• If I missed my scheduled APE due to fortuitous events, can I be rescheduled?


– This would be on a case to case basis. If such happens, please advise your
HR Reward Partners to check the possibility of rescheduling your APE.

FAQ’s

• What if I am on leave/long leave/out of the country during my scheduled APE?


– Kindly coordinate with your HR Reward Partners to check the possibility of
rescheduling your APE “off-site”.

• Can I waive my X-Ray if I just had one recently?


– Only pregnant employees or employees with special conditions are allowed to
waive the X-Ray.

• What should I bring on the date of the APE?


– Bring your company ID and Ballpen.
