JAPANESE INDUSTRIAL STANDARD JIS G 4801: 2011 Spring steels Introduction This Japanese Industrial Standard has been prepared based on the third edition of ISO 683-14 published in 2004 with some modifications of the technical contents. ‘The portions given sidelines are the matters in which the contents of the correspond- ing International Standard have been modified. A list of modifications with the ex- planations is given in Annex JA. 1 Scope This Standard specifies the spring steels (hereafter referred to as “steels”) mainly used for the hot-formed springs such as the laminated springs, coiled springs and torsion bar springs. NOTE: The International Standard corresponding to this Standard and the sym- bol of degree of correspondence are as follows: ISO 683-14:2004 Heat-treatable steels, alloy steels and free-cutting steels—Part 14: Hot-rolled steels for quenched and tempered springs (Mop) The symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the con- tents between the relevant International Standard and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/ IEC Guide 21-1. 2 Normative references The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this Standard. The most recent editions of the standards (including amendments) indicated below shall be applied JIS G 0320 Standard test method for heat analysis of steel products JIS G 0321 Product analysis and its tolerance for wrought steel JIS G 0404 Steel and steel products—General technical delivery requirements JIS G 0415 Steel and steel products—Inspection documents NOTE : Corresponding International Standard: ISO 10474 Steel and steel prod- ucts—Inspection documents (IDT) JIS G 0551 Steels—Micrographic determination of the apparent grain size JIS G 0553 Steel—Macroscopic examination by etching JIS G 0555 Microscopic testing method for the non-metallic inclusions in steel JIS G 0558 Steels—Determination of depth of decarburization JIS G 0561 Method of hardenability test for steel (End quenching method) JIS G 0901 Classification of structural rolled steel plate and wide flat for build- ing by ultrasonic test PROTECTED BY COPYRIGHT a G 4801 : 2011 SIS G 3191 Dimensions, mass and permissible variations of hot rolled steel bars and bar in coil JIS G 3194 Dimensions, mass and permissible variations of hot rolled flat steel JIS G 4051 Carbon steels for machine structural use JIS Z 2241 Metallic materials—Tensile testing—Method of test at room tempera- ture JIS Z 2243 Brinell hardness test—Test method JIS Z 2245 Rockwell hardness test—Test method JIS Z 2320-1 Non-destructive testing—Magnetic particle testing—Part 1: General principles JIS Z 2344 General rule of ultrasonic testing of metals by pulse echo technique 3 Designation of grade The steels shall be classified into 8 grades, and their designations shall be as given in table 1.
