Dr.

Jose Rizal, who courageously criticized and denounced the tyrants during the
Spanish rule, proved that words are not mere voices, rather, it sparks a revolution and
inflicts change. He is known for his political writings and one of his poems entitled, “To
the Filipino Youth” became an eye-opener for every individual especially to the youth
with the importance of love and appreciation to the country. These two are essential to
remove barriers and make the nation a better place. The poem shows that the fate of
the country is in our hands. We are the contemporary generation of leaders who will
make the change essential to this country. And he was not wrong in his proclamation
that the youth are the hope of the nation. Because nowadays, we continue to live his
legacy: to revolt against injustices and oppression that is the right of the people. We
amplify the revolution and the voices of those on the front lines of the struggles for
justice and democracy. We collectively defend the freedom our forefathers fought for.
And we honor the valiant men and women who fought for our independence that raised
our flag in full dignity. Furthermore, with the innovations in technology and
advancements in studies about almost everything and anything, have it in our favor to
come up with realistic and feasible answers to the country’s, even to the world’s social
issues. We must bear in mind that history is bound to repeat itself if it is not fixed
immediately. As members of modern society, we are affected by social concerns in
ways we may not even be aware of. It is our responsibility to educate ourselves on the
issues this nation has and it is our duty to be this nation’s silver lining. We must be
advocates for the change we all desire – the change from within; the change that will
create a domino reaction of transformation from all others and break the barricade in
this society. It is time that we rekindle the glory of the Filipino race and let us be the
catalyst of change that our national hero wanted us to be.
