The word champo comes from the Hindu word champo, which means massage or kneading.
India has employed a variety of herbs and their extracts as shampoos since ancient times,
Sapindus (soapberries or soapnuts) were boiled with dried Indian gooseberry (amla) and a
variety of other herbs, and the filtered extract was used to make a shampoo.
