PROJECT REFLECTION Saladino – EDU 214

Student Name:   Kylie Pratt

Date: 7/11/21

Artifact Description: My Classroom – Design my own classroom from a bird’s eye

view.

What you learned:

I really enjoyed this project. I used Word to create my design and I am very familiar with
those design tools already, so it came pretty easily to me. I designed my classroom
from inspiration of a few of my past teachers’ classrooms as well as what I would
personally like in a classroom. My room is built as a middle school English classroom. I
knew I needed space for a student library as well as class sets of books, curriculum,
and basic supplies. I also included a storage shelf behind the teacher’s desk for their
supplies and personal belongings. I designed the room so that students would be sitting
in pairs all facing the front of the classroom. I had a hard time deciding where the
teacher’s desk should go. I shifted the teachers desks and the students desks many
times before I found a configuration I liked. I landed on this design because I feel that
the teacher is not to far away from any students and it gives the students a built in
partner for group activities. There was an original design I had that made everything too
cramped and made the room feel ridiculously small. I am happy I revised that design
even if this current one is more traditional.

National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS)•S Addressed:

The standard addressed for students in this project would be 4b – Students select and
use digital tools to plan and manage a design process that considers design constraints
and calculated risks.
Application of Skills Learned for the Future:
I think learning how to design a space like this is essential in teaching. Seating charts
for substitutes and administration is always needed, and it can help the teachers
become more organized. I think this can be adapted to students by asking them to
design their bedrooms at home and ask them to include things such as their bed,
television, closet, or anything they may haven in their rooms.
