2. Number of AUs: 3 3. Course type: Prescribed Elective

Lecture: 2 hours/week for 13 weeks

4. Course schedule:
Tutorial: 1 hour/week for 12 weeks

Assignment: 10%

5. Course assessment: Quiz: 20%

Exam: 70%

6. Course prerequisites: EE2001 Circuit Analysis

This course is developed as a third-year electrical engineering course and is

designed to provide the basic theory along with introduction to most common
machines without going into rigorous details of machine theory. The first topic
is to introduce students to electromagnetic principles and actuators such as
solenoids, relays and inductors. The second topic enables students to grasp
7. Course description:
fundamentals and applications of electrical transformers. The third and fourth
topics introduce knowledge on DC and AC electrical machinery which are used
extensively in industry. This course is a requisite for high-level courses in
electrical engineering. Prior knowledge of circuit analysis (EE2001), simple
vector algebra and complex number manipulation would be helpful.
